More than a month remain to the announcement of core i 7 -980X Extreme edition processor with six core and default frequency 3.33 GHz. It is completely regular, that Intel company decided to describe about the architectural special features of gulftown processors in a conference.
Like all processor generation westmere, they support the hardware coding acceleration on AES algorithms. Furthermore, the technologies of energy-economy now moved much further: gulftown processors can disconnect not only core, but also other functional part like the memory controller , QPI controller and third level cache. The memory controller of gulftown processors supports not only DDR- 3 modules with 1.5 v, but also modules with 1.35 v.
Gulftown processor contains 1.17 billion transistors on the monolithic crystal with 240 sq. mm area. In this case, it has six core and 12 mb cache in the third level. The modest according to their characteristics 45 nm processors bloomfield and Lynnfield has a crystal area 263 and 296 sq. mm respectively, being satisfied by four by core. The quantity of transistors does not exceed 731 ml pieces for Bloomfield and 774 ml pieces for Lynnfield.
The mysterious processor core i 7-970 (3.2 GHz) is the four core junior brother of Gulftown. Six-core crystal will be the base, but only four core will remain active. Intel do not desire to purely release four core processors in westmere series, preferring to wait for passage to sandy bridge architecture.
Intel company created the prototype of 47- channel interface in the form of flexible bridge, which transfer information between the processors with 470 Gbit/s speed. The energy consumption level of this interface does not exceed 0.7 W. Interface can be used in multiprocessor systems.
The multicore processors in the future, in Intel opinion , can have independent frequencies and voltage for each of the core. Faster core will be employed strongly. But if high frequency and voltage will become the reason for interference, core will execute task repeatedly, if necessary at the lower frequency. Related Products :
