The official announcement of R700 video cards will be only in August, and today we can only briefly introduce the R700 : This is the two-processor RADEON HD 4870. Therefore it so is called RADEON HD 4870 X2. In contrast to 4870 with 512 megabyte memory , this product contain 2 x 1024 memory. Let us pass to the full specification of r700 cards (two chips RV770) .

It is obvious that design concept after transfer from the HD 3870 x2 touched only the special features of DDR5 memory and the stronger requirements for the power circuit. The card include new bridge PEX from PLX technologies, which ensures internal Crossfire regime between the cores. The Cooling system is the same as in 3870 X2, but here the radiators was intensified .
The memory microcircuits are cooled by special plate- radiator. Those cards are equipped with their own sound codec; therefore precisely this sound is transferred to HDMI (with the aid of DVI-to-HDMI adapter).
Let us also note that the video card power is achieved with the aid of one 6- pin and 8- pin connector. Those cards are supplied with adapters DVI-to-HDMI .
Maximum resolutions and frequency: 240 Hz max refresh rate , 2048 x 1536 x 32bit x85Hz max
Analog interface 2560 x 1600 @ 60Hz max
Unfortunately the utility rivaTuner does not support this new series therefore there is no monitoring. However, the card heat up strongly, and the core temperature can be 80 C and higher .Here is the configuration used in this test :

World In conflict 1.007 (Massive entertainment/Sierra) - DirectX 10.0, shaders 4.0, maximum quality (very high with AA and AF).
It is obvious that the new X2 card theoretically can be 2 times faster than 4870, but actually this value is from 1.5 to 1.8 times ( sometimes less ). Yes, looking at the graphs and the excellent numbers , it is necessary to have in mind that generally the two-processor card have a large deficiency: the programmed control assignment between the processors; therefore the degree of adjustment and productivity in games depends on how programmers worked above the appropriate driver.
In any case, we will investigate further this question, and final clarity will appear already up to the announcement moment . We regret that AMD completely forewent the release of single core powerful solutions .Now we can wait for NVIDIA reciprocal actions. And we again emphasize that the verdict IS NOT FINAL! Wait for our further studies!
