GlobalFoundries chip maker in 2010, entered into a partnership agreement with South Korea's Samsung. The cooperation was aimed at the development of production technology with low-cost processors, based on current transistors with metal gate in accordance with 28-nm process technology. The prospects are attractive enough technology: GlobalFoundries promises to reduce processors power consumption by 60%, with performance per watt increase by up to 55% compared to 45-nm solutions. At the annual conference, which arranges GlobalFoundries in Silicon Valley, both companies reported a success in mastering technology.
In the development was also IBM and STMicroelectronics. Companies are ready to begin manufacturing processors, equipped with all necessary instructions blocks and controllers.
Companies will be able to provide services lithographic production and compete with the biggest contract chip manufacturer TSMC.
