Around the Japanese company Sharp develops an interesting situation. Japanese companies - Sony, Sharp, Hitachi and others - began to massively buy products to contractors outside the country. It saved money for the development and expansion. For a while, such a mechanism would bring the Japanese decent profit. But now Japanese companies are in debt.
Samsung itself does not specify the purpose of investment in Sharp. However, according to rumors , it will enable the South Korean manufacturer to provide themselves with quality panels for widescreen televisions. There were also rumors that Samsung intends to access the technology using advanced materials - IGZO (In-Ga-Zn-O TFT, a mixture of indium, gallium, zinc and silica). Panel based substrates IGZO promised to energy efficient lighting with consuming no more than OLED, and still be a quarter thinner than traditional OLED-panels.
According to the opinion of Taiwan's Innolux Corporation chairman , Samsung invest in Sharp in the amount of $ 110 million to gain access to a revolutionary technology. On the other hand, Qualcomm has received access to IGZO technology for half the amount.
