We specify that the ban touched some older iPhone and iPad, so that its economic effect was negligible. Thus, the decision of the president rather be seen as a gesture addressed to Samsung and other companies using patent disputes against competitors.
The list of devices, which tried to ban imports of ITC, including smart phones iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, and iPad 3G Tablet and iPad 2 3G, distributed by AT & T. In these devices, according to Samsung, which affirmed by ITC, infringed patents owned by Samsung. The decision to ban was issued on 4 June and was due to come into force today.
As stated in an official statement on the veto was adopted in the calculation of the effect that the ban could have "on the conditions of competition in the U.S. economy and American consumers."
An Apple representative expressed satisfaction with the President, noting that this is the first case in which an ITC decision to ban was vetoed, since the Reagan administration, to exercise this right in 1987.
In turn, the statement expressed disappointment Samsung ending stories as ITC decision was based on the unequivocal conclusion that Apple infringed patents. Veto allows American companies continue to ignore the intellectual rights Samsung.
