A series of tests involves finding weaknesses in design and materials, as well as regulatory compliance sets a variety of industry standards. There are rooms simulated high altitude or ultra-high humidity, and even room filled with dust.
Testing laboratories are located in the former headquarters campus Compaq, which HP bought in 2002. Massive complex includes more than a dozen buildings, most of which is connected to the closed transition.
