Announcement of new Western Digital hard drives models with 6TB volume caused controversy about whether helium allowed to achieve the desired volume.
Western Digital executives prefer to talk about the prospects of using this technology in the future. They explained that the helium content of hard drives is not a prerequisite to further increase the recording density. Another thing that has not yet be introduced qualitatively new magnetic recording technology, the density will grow by more than 20% per year.
Presented recently 6TB storage volume contains five platters. However, returning to the previous models of similar volume, which were filled with helium, Western Digital says that the main purpose of manufacture of such a product has been technology demonstration producer.
