Microsoft carefully concealing their losses and Samsung too busy protecting their position in the smartphone segment, in order to save their own tablet. Even the producers of inexpensive compact tablets feel uncomfortable because of smart phones with large displays.
Canalys experts found that in the second quarter this year, sales of laptops for the first time since the third quarter of last year exceeded the sales of tablets. If the first was sold 49.1 million units, the latter has sold no more than 48.4 million units. Compared with the first quarter of the year, sales of tablets decreased by 8% in the Asia-Pacific region (including China), and in Western Europe, they dropped by 18%. It is noteworthy that in the U.S. sales of tablets have managed to grow by 4%, and in the aggregate in Europe, Middle East and Africa sales volumes for the year of tablets fell by 11%.
Analysts believe that the reason for the decline in the tablet market is not only competition from major smartphone, but the lack of clear progress in the performance of these devices, and most importantly - no need for this progress. In North America and EMEA, sales of laptops for the year increased by 13% and 8%, respectively.
