SanDisk yesterday published a press release dedicated to the new series of Solid State Drives SanDisk Ultra II.
New device is based on TLC NAND. SanDisk avoids the use of the notation TLC NAND, preferring to use X3 NAND - on base of such a memory cell that stores three bits of data, instead of two, as in the traditional MLC NAND (although in its essence is a kind of TLC MLC). The company also does not indicate the controller used, most likely it will be a Marvell 88SS9187, but do not exclude the use of the new Marvell 88SS1074 , which is precisely designed to work with TLC NAND.
Declared support and technology nCache, which was updated to version 2.0. Its technical implementation is that the data written to the drive pre-grouped in a reserved area, which is addressed in a sparing mode SLC NAND and only then received a large block of controller firmware moves into the bulk of the flash memory. This approach allows to give higher speed characteristics for building block random write operations, and at the same time save resources of flash memory.
The release of an updated software package SanDisk SSD Dashboard, which provides monitoring of the drive and update its firmware.
It is assumed the simultaneous release of four models Ultra II volume of 120, 240, 480 and 960 GB, and with an interesting price positioning: $ 80, $ 115, $ 220 and $ 430, respectively. Related Products :
