Recently we have reported that a member of the group Volkswagen AG trademark Porsche expects to release in the near future electric vehicle that can pass without charging up to 500 km, and the charging process is done fast enough. Although the technology underlying reason this optimism has not been disclosed, a new publication on the resource Bloomberg allows us to understand what technology will be used at the same time.
Currently, Volkswagen owns 5% of the shares of a young American company QuantumSpace Corp., founded in 2010 by immigrants from Stanford University. Developers create a new type of rechargeable battery that replaces the liquid electrolyte in the solid state. Firstly, it allows to make batteries fireproof and fire-resistant. Secondly, this new technology allows to store more energy in the battery. According to some estimates, equipped with such electric batteries will pass without charging up to 700 km.
According to representatives of Volkswagen, progress in developing a new type of battery noticeable. If necessary, the company can increase its stake in QuantumSpace Corp. The decision on the possibility of using this technology developer in their own vehicles, Volkswagen intends to take to the middle of this year.
