Rumors that Apple is planning to abandon the LCD-panels on the iPhone in favor of OLED-displays, go for a long time. And today the publication Reuters reported, citing unnamed sources, that the supply of OLED displays will be engaged in the South Korean company LG Display and Samsung Display.
The report of the publication states that the OLED-screens will appear in the next generation iPhone. They are thinner and provide better image quality compared to the currently used in the iPhone LCD-displays. LG and Samsung Display are close to a final agreement with Apple to supply OLED-displays. Korean manufacturers plan to spend the next two or three years, a total of 15 trillion won (about $ 12.8 billion at the current exchange rate) to modernize and expand production of OLED-displays.
Recall, now Samsung Display manufacturers OLED-displays for the needs of its parent company, Samsung Electronics, as well as supplies of Chinese manufacturers of smartphones.
Representatives from LG Display and Samsung Display refused to comment on the report.
