AMD CEO Lisa Su recently met with representatives of the Indian government to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, pertaining to the development plans of the local semiconductor industry. Specific plans are not specified, AMD has long renounced its own factories, transferring them to GlobalFoundries balance, but the experience of processors and chips developer can be useful for Indian company HSMC, which hopes to build in India at least two factories in contract production of semiconductor products for technical processes with 90 / 65/45-nm using silicon wafers 300 mm in size.
AMD is committed to helping the Indian authorities to turn the country into an international center of contract semiconductor manufacturing. Within India itself demand for electronics in 2020 to grow to $ 400 billion equivalent. It is difficult to say what exactly will be AMD HSMC role in the implementation of plans and the Indian government. Until now, the company is concentrated in the region, only the development of the software and some of its hardware solutions.
