Judging by the latest Intel applications and personnel changes in the corporate management, the manufacturer of processors tired to spend money on promoting their own solutions with a high degree of integration in the smartphone segment. Without accompanying subsidies they have become too expensive for the manufacturers of mobile devices, and selling any product at a loss sooner or later get tired of even the company with a large stock of financial strength.
As admitted in an interview with the Taipei Times some anonymous representatives of Asustek Computer, a solution like Intel will not have much impact on the business of the Taiwanese manufacturer, as more in the second half of last year, the company restructured to use Qualcomm and MediaTek processors in their own smartphones. The share of Intel processor-based solutions are now not so high .At the end of last year, only 20% of the smartphone Asus was based on Intel processors, the share of Qualcomm solutions had 50-60%.
Sources familiar with the situation, added that subsidized Intel processors allowed Asustek not only significantly increase thevolumes of smartphones sales in 2014, but the first time in the ten-year history to make this business profitable for the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer. Asus ZenFone 3 family will be used mainly Qualcomm processor, and the share of Intel processors in the assortment of products Asustek will continue to decline.
Such changes should not affect the relationship between Intel and Asustek. According to the last of the companies, instead of smartphones will be to focus on the "Internet of Things" or the segment of automotive electronics. Acer company, which uses Intel chips in their tablets, expresses the hope that the changes in the processor giant's policy will not have a material impact on the cooperation between the companies, and adaptation to new conditions will take place painlessly.
