A few days ago we wrote about the fact that the version of GeForce GTX 1060 3GB GDDR5 video memory will differ from the 6-GB version is not only smaller volume of video memory, but also the fact that it will be used "cut down" the GPU GP106 (128 cores CUDA and 8 texture units). Now it is reported that the company has decided to stop issuing the younger version of GeForce GTX 1060.
Our colleagues from TweakTown, citing its own sources, reports that NVIDIA decided to abandon the release version of the GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card with 3GB of memory, and only 6-GB version of the GeForce GTX 1060. It looks quite reasonable, because the "stripped-down" 3 GB version could hardly compete with the 4 GB version of the AMD Radeon RX 480, in which, as in the 8 GB version, use a full-fledged GPU.
It is reported that instead of younger GeForce GTX 1060 to the end of this year NVIDIA will release video card GeForce GTX 1050 3 GB of video memory, based on the "stripped-down" version of the GP106. This solution looks quite reasonable and will allow NVIDIA to better compete with AMD's less powerful video cards, for example, with the Radeon RX 460, or even Radeon RX 470.
