Intel officially introduced consumer versions of Optane series drives on 3D XPoint memory, which happened a week after the announcement of the first-ever commercial SSD on a new memory type .  The server SSD came out with a capacity of 375 GB.  Consumer versions in the form factor M.2 2280 received a volume of 16 GB and 32 GB.  Thus, the first generation of Intel Optane SSDs became a solution for caching frequently requested data, rather than full-fledged SSDs.  In this case Optane drives will work only with Intel Core i7 processors and 200-series chipsets.  In other words, the solution is designed for systems costing several thousand US dllars.   The cost of a 16-GB version of Optane is $ 44, and 32 GB will cost $ 77.  Consecutive read / write speeds will reach 1200/280 MB / s.  IOPS values for random blocks during reading will approach 300 thousand, and during recording they will tend to 70 thousand. The main advantage of SSD Optane company Intel considers very small delays during accesses during reading and writing: accordingly, 6 and 18 microseconds.  By caching the data on SSD Optane, the system becomes more responsive, which speeds up the loading of applications without significantly increasing the costs spent on assembling the PC. Using caching SSD Optane on average increases the speed of the system in popular benchmarks by 8-27% (graph above).  Intel sees a special prize in doubling the system load (only running Windows 10) and working with large files.  The performance of the disk system using Optane increases 14 times.  Also, for example, the speed of launching Microsoft Outlook is growing 6-fold, and the launch of games on average increases 18-fold.  Loading levels in the game is accelerated by 58%.  Another advantage of SSD Optane company Intel sees in the ability better than other drives to work with a small requests queue  . On sale, Optane accelerators will appear after April 24.  After June, the motherboard manufacturers promise to supply the SSD Optane with the motherboards.  While memory drives on 3D XPoint remain a scarce commodity.  More and more capacious SSD Optane will not appear until the second half of this year.
