Western Digital Corporation notifies that a lawsuit has been filed in an international arbitration court calling for the prohibition of Toshiba selling its solid-state memory business without the consent of the owner of SanDisk assets, which is an American corporation. As has been repeatedly noted, SanDisk and Toshiba had a joint venture to produce memory.
The US hard drive manufacturer claims that the sale of Toshiba assets without the consent of WDC violates its interests. In response, Toshiba recalls that when WDC bought SanDisk's assets, no one asked the Japanese company's opinion, and this fully corresponds to the conditions at which the joint venture exists. WDC claims that it did not want to bring the matter to court, but all other measures taken have proved ineffective.
As noted by the source, the international consortium of investors suggested WDC to become one of the shareholders of the newly created company Toshiba Memory, but the Americans prefer to have full control over the assets. If you consider that such disputes are considered for years, Toshiba is now at risk of losing not only new loans, but also places in the quotation list of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
