The head of the graphic division AMD Raja Koduri urged the audience to wait a bit for the release of the game version of Vega, promising to compensate for the agonizing expectation of a high level of performance. At a question and answer session on the pages of the resource Reddit, he explained that the game version of Radeon RX Vega will be shown on Computex 2017, which will start on May 31, but the video card will not be available for sale at the same time.
But the head of the company's profile division said that in games Radeon RX Vega will show a higher performance than the recently presented accelerator Radeon Vega Frontier Edition. In connection with the latter, it was also said that the serial version of the video card will be equipped with two eight-pin additional power connectors, and the liquid-cooled version will operate at slightly higher frequencies. AMD will think about the possibility of releasing a Vega video game card with 16 GB of HBM2 memory.
In general, the situation with the availability of HBM2 has somewhat improved, and now video card manufacturers can at least choose between the products of SK Hynix and Samsung. Koduri hopes that this will allow more affordable video cards to be allocated to memory HBM2 type - however, for the "reference point" it takes expensive NVIDIA computational accelerators, so against their background even flagship game products will seem cheap, although their price will be not one hundred dollars . By the way, AMD promises to think over the possibility of overclocking memory type HBM2.
Accelerators Radeon Vega Frontier Edition are equipped with two memory stacks type HBM2. This means that the volume of 16 GB, they gain two eight-tiered stacks of 8 GB each. Game demos at the last event were shown using the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition version with an air cooling system. Memory type HBM2 provides certain layout advantages, so the game versions of Radeon RX Vega will be released in form factors, suitable for placement in mini-ITX systems. Raja Koduri promised not to shave his beard until the game Radeon RX Vega will not be presented.
On the reproaches of skeptics, calling Vega "an improved version of Polaris" Raja Koduri replied that this graphic solution uses not only a new architecture, but also a new layout. In particular, this is the first graphics processor supporting the high-speed Infinity Fabric interface.
Officially, the speech of AMD representatives on Computex 2017 is scheduled for May 31, and speech at the event will go about future products.
