POSTER: computer news   ||    THE CHARACTERISTICS OF NVIDIA VOLTA PROVE THAT MOORES LAW IS MORE LIKELY TO LIVE

DATE:2017-07-10

NVIDIA specialists recently admitted that the technological possibilities for creating even larger single-chip graphics processors will soon be exhausted, and one of the further ways of evolutionary development is the creation of multi-chip graphics solutions.  It is appropriate to recall how the representatives of AMD and some industry experts praise the high-speed interface Infinity Fabric, which is designed to solve similar problems, but already in the segment of central processors.

Analysts at RBC Capital recently examined the parameters of the latest semiconductor products from NVIDIA and Intel, and concluded that the so-called "Moore's law" remains valid.  It is an empirical rule that the density of transistors is doubled every 1.5-2 years.

As an example, the NVIDIA Volta computation accelerator was used, which, with a crystal area of about 815 mm2, contains 21.1 billion transistors.  Compared with Maxwell's characteristics, the experts concluded that in two years NVIDIA increased the number of transistors by 164%, and the area of the crystal increased by 36%.  Summarizing the indicators to the "common denominator", the authors of the study come to the conclusion that the density of the transistors in the case of NVIDIA products increased by 95%, and this roughly corresponds to a doubling in two years.

In the case of Intel products, the comparison is made on the basis of not the most obvious examples, but the arguments from this become no less convincing.  Five years ago, the 61-core Xeon Phi computing accelerator contained 5 billion transistors on an area of 720 square meters.  Last year, the company created the 22-core Xeon E5 family Broadwell, which placed 7.2 billion transistors on an area of 456 sq. M.  The area has decreased by 37%, and the number of transistors has increased by 44%.  As a result, the density of placement of elements per unit area of crystals increased by 127%.  It remains only to note that this happened in three to four years, not two, so in the case of Intel products, it's appropriate to talk about slowing down the "Moore's law".

POSTER: computer news   ||    SMARTPHONES AND TVS WILL REMAIN THE MAIN CONSUMERS OF AMOLED PANELS

DATE:2017-07-10

Monday morning is the usual time for news of the "sixth freshness", especially in the height of summer in its calendar understanding.  Last week, IHS Markit 's forecast for AMOLED panels market development rate was in our field of vision, but there were more important news, and now it's time to discuss this material.

Experts of this company believe that by the end of this year the capacity of the AMOLED-panel market will grow by 63% to $ 25.2 billion. The leading consumers of this panels type  are smartphones, followed by television equipment.  However, the demand for AMOLED-panels on the part of TV manufacturers is not so high, although it is growing at a good pace: from 890 thousand last year to 1.5 million in this.  In aggregate, according to the authors of the forecast, the capacity of the AMOLED panel market will exceed $ 40 billion by 2021.

Smartphones actively use AMOLED-panels, as they allow to create devices of frameless design in a thin case.  This year, the use of AMOLED-panels should go to Apple's smartphones, Chinese competitors do not lag behind.  Korean and Chinese manufacturers of AMOLED-panels are actively increasing the volume of output.  If we talk about TV panels of this type, then the leading position is occupied by LG Display.  Growth in demand is also expected in the segment of mobile PCs, as well as helmets of virtual and augmented reality.

POSTER: computer news   ||    LG Q6 BASED ON SNAPDRAGON 430 TESTED IN GEEKBENCH

DATE:2017-07-10

Already tomorrow, July 11, in Poland, the South Korean corporation LG will present a compact version of the flagship LG G6, which will be named LG Q6 .  And on the eve of its announcement, a new smartphone is seen in the benchmark of Geekbench, as reported by the GSMArena Internet portal.

Thanks to Geekbench, we became aware of such characteristics of LG Q6, as the model and processor speed, the amount of RAM and the OS version.  So, the base of the LG Q6 will be the eight-core 1.4-gigahertz chip Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, which will work in tandem with 3 GB of RAM.  A new smartphone will be running the mobile OS Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

In the single-core mode, the LG Q6 scored 622 points in the Geekbench, and in the multi-core - 1777 points.  The result is not impressive, but you should not expect more, given the modest processor.

Recall earlier sources said that the LG Q6 will be equipped with 5.4-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18: 9, like the LG G6.  It will take just under 80% of the entire area of the frontal surface.

POSTER: computer news   ||    IN THE SECOND QUARTER, XIAOMI SOLD 23 MILLION SMARTPHONES

DATE:2017-07-10

The Chinese company Xiaomi summed up the results of the second quarter of 2017, which ended June 30.  It became the most successful quarter in the history of Xiaomi.

In the second quarter of 2017, Xiaomi sold worldwide 23 million smartphones.  This, according to CEO Xiaomi Lei Jun (Lei Jun), 70% more than in the previous quarter.  Only in India, sales of Xiaomi smartphones grew by 328% compared to the same period last year, this was facilitated by the opening of the first Mi Home store in Bangalore two months ago.  The most sold in India smartphone Xiaomi became Redmi Note 4.

According to GSMArena , by the end of 2017 Xiaomi plans to reach a quarterly revenue of 100 billion yuan (about $ 14.7 billion).  And in 2018 the company expects to sell at least 100 million smartphones in the quarter.
