POSTER: computer news   ||   IBM HAS CREATED THE INDUSTRYS FIRST PCM MEMORY WITH A RECORD OF THREE BITS PER CELL

DATE:2016-05-18

Researchers at IBM reported a significant breakthrough in the development of promising non-volatile memory types.  So, at the annual thematic forum IEEE International Memory Workshop in Paris, a group of the Zurich Research Center showed a fully working prototype of the memory based on phase-change material that can be stored in each cell, three bits of data.

Experienced chip produced using 90-nanometer CMOS process technology to an array capacity of 32 Mbps.  On assurances of developers, three bit memory PCM can withstand up to 10 million Write cycles, while modern NAND-flash memory is designed for 3,000 erase / write cycles.  In PCM memory speed approaching the speed of RAM, making it a candidate for a single universal memory in the future.  While IBM expect to see a PCM circuit in the form of arrays for  SSD and as a buffer memory for SSD based on NAND-flash.

PCM-type memory in commercial volumes produced for about ten years.  However, it is not widespread.  Its main problem - it is a low recording density.  Creating threebit PCM cell largely solves this problem.  Intel and Micron's, is known to have solved the problem of low density PCM another way - they introduced 3D-layered structure in the form of memory 3D XPoint.  Threebit Box solves this problem easily and at lower cost.  Like it or not, a single-layer structure is simpler and more reliable than multilayer.  In addition, the level of defects in creating multilayer structures is much higher than in creating single layer.  Unfortunately,  IBM lost its own factories, so 3D XPoint Intel / Micron memory is already close to the appearance on the market.

Recall, PCM memory cell works on the same principle as the rewritable optical disc, only instead of the laser material in the cell heating occurs by means of sufficiently high currents.  From the applied current will depend  the volume of material translated in the cell from the amorphous state (high resistance) in a crystalline (low resistance).  Reading - determination of resistance cells - small currents occurs.  To write three bits per cell is required to write complicated 8-level signal.

For reliable writing and reading of the signal, IBM had to combine two approaches.  Firstly,  reference signal to develop a metric for determining the record level in the cell.  Second, use the special entry level programming techniques.  The fact that with time the recording level in a cell is floating.  Drift is also temperature dependent.  According to IBM, the company was able to solve the problem of error associated with the drift of cell resistance  .

POSTER: computer news   ||   NEDO-SP2 POSTED A CUMULATIVE UPDATE FOR WINDOWS 7 AND WINDOWS SERVER 2008 R2

DATE:2016-05-18

Everyone is familiar with the fact that Microsoft in January 13, 2015 completed the general support,  enhanced support for Windows 7 operating system is maintained until 2020.  Back in 2012 year it was announced that SP2 will not be released for the OS.

In The official Microsoft Windows Update site became available Cumulative Update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (32bit and 64bit) and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (64bit).  Purely formal promise made in 2012 year, is satisfied: this service pack is called Service Pack 2 .

This update is not available in automatic mode in Windows Update, you need to install it manually download the software package.  Take into account that Microsoft has received in his style: this link only works in the browser Microsoft Internet Explorer.  The download is 316 MB update for Windows 7 32-bit edition, and 477 MB for 64-bit editions of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Note that this package does not include some of the previously issued patch, as well as some problems may occur during installation.

Installation takes about 10 minutes (Intel Core i7-3820, 12 GB DDR3-1600, SSD OCZ Saber 1000 240 GB).

POSTER: computer news   ||   WINDOWS 7 WILL LIVE MICROSOFT WILL PUBLISH MONTHLY COMMON PACKS

DATE:2016-05-18

Microsoft in its official blog announced that it recognizes the fact of the popularity of this operating system, and therefore will now be publish special monthly service packs for it.

It should only be noted that the standard "patch" security-related, will not be included in these packages and all will be published separately every Tuesday, and therefore should not be completely relaxed.

Also today we are announcing that non- security updates for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 (as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2) will be available as a monthly rollup (fixes rolled up together into a single update).  Each month, we will release a single update containing all of the non-security fixes for that month.  We are making this change - shifting to rollup updates, to improve the reliability and quality of our updates.

These fixes will be available through Windows Update, WSUS, and SCCM as well as the Microsoft Update catalog.  We hope this monthly rollup update simplifies your process of keeping Windows 7, and 8.1 up-to-date.

In addition, today we are announcing that the updates are not security-related for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows, 8.1 (as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2) will be available in the form of monthly rollup.  Each month we will release another update that contains all the fixes that are not related to the safety of this month.  We realize a transition to the cumulative updates to improve the reliability and quality of our updates.

These corrections will be available through Windows Update, WSUS, and SCCM, and the Microsoft Update catalog.  We hope that this monthly update rollup will simplify the process of maintaining Windows 7 and 8.1 to date.
