POSTER: computer news   ||    INTEL CHIPSETS WILL SUPPORT USB 3.1 AND WI-FI ONLY IN 2018

DATE:2017-06-17

Speaking of  initiative to provide customers with the opportunity to implement Thunderbolt interface support in their own products for free, Intel noted that at one time it was the support for new interfaces with Intel chipsets that opened the way for them on the mass market.  At least as soon as Intel platforms gained support for new versions of USB, the corresponding products immediately received massive distribution.

Intel's "three-hundredth series" chipsets have already been attributed to the inborn support not only of USB 3.1, but also of the Wi-Fi wireless interface with gigabit data rates.  It was assumed that the Intel 3xx chipsets will debut along with the 14-nm desktop processors of the Coffee Lake generation.  Now we know that some of the processors of this series will be released in August this year, so they will have to accompany the chipset Intel Z370.

Colleagues from the site DigiTimes argue that the Intel Z370 due to the postponement of the August debut of support for USB 3.1 of the second generation and Wi-Fi will be stripped, but the outcoming in early 2018, the chipset of the Intel Z390 and H370 will already be offered.  Even the Gemini Lake platform, which implies the use of processors with a high degree of integration and low power consumption, will offer native Wi-Fi support at the end of this year.

To less suffer from Intel corresponding steps , ASMedia implements USB 3.2 support in its discrete controllers, which can be claimed by the manufacturers of motherboards and laptops.  Realtek from the transfer of the corresponding functionality to the Intel logic sets will also suffer, but only in 2018.  To the end user, the implementation of support for new interfaces through the use of Intel chipset  promises to save money when buying motherboards and laptops.

POSTER: computer news   ||    FOXCONN CONDUCTS AGITATIONAL PREPARATION OF THE DEAL WITH THE PURCHASE OF TOSHIBA MEMORY ASSETS

DATE:2017-06-17

This week, the results of bidding for Toshiba Memory assets have not been announced, and the timing of the publication of the annual financial report may be delayed.  It would seem that this gives time to potential buyers of the Japanese company's memory business more time to prepare for the deal.  The Chinese giant Foxconn , for example, proposes to fold into the profile business of Toshiba "all over the world," mainly American, in order not to provoke Japanese discontent from the series of "leaking important technologies to communist China."

The head of Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn), as DigiTimes explains, is trying to convince representatives of the Japanese corporation Toshiba that the purchase by the Taiwanese giant of the solid-state memory business is not an indication of the inevitable export of technology to China.  Terry Gou (Terry Gou) hints to representatives of Toshiba that it  should be more afraid not of technology leakage, but of their lagging behind the same South Korean competitors.

A potential Taiwanese investor argues that Toshiba will be able to continue research in Japan, and if new developments need to be protected by patents, Foxconn is ready to start filing relevant applications.  The company is interested in expanding its presence in the Chinese market, and buying Toshiba assets should not be considered an act of sabotage or unfriendly actions.  The press, according to Terry Gow, spreads a lot of false information about Foxconn's intentions regarding Toshiba's assets for sale.

POSTER: computer news   ||    MICRON BELIEVES THAT SSD WILL ACTIVELY TIGHTEN HARD DRIVES EVEN IN THE SERVER SEGMENT

DATE:2017-06-17

Chief Financial Officer of Micron Technology Ernest Maddock at the recent annual NASDAQ conference said that even with the existing price difference between solid-state drives and hard drives, the first provide an advantage in maintenance costs of 30%.  The benefit of SSD is lower power consumption, higher reliability and ease of maintenance.

Of course, it is still too early to talk about the ability of SSD to drive hard drives out of magnetic storage devices from storage systems, but Micron's CFO is convinced that once the price level will allow solid-state drives to become the sole inhabitants of desktop computers and laptops.  In the server segment, the replacement process will be longer, but the main arguments in favor of switching to the SSD in it will be precisely economic factors.

POSTER: computer news   ||    NVIDIA URGED THE US AUTHORITIES TO DEVELOP UNIFORM FEDERAL RULES FOR TESTING VEHICLES

DATE:2017-06-17

Vice President of NVIDIA Rob Csongor, who is responsible for the business of automotive components, took part in the meeting of the US Congress Commission, which supervises the development of autopilot systems for land transport and the rules governing the relevant tests.  The main arguments in favor of speedy development of "robots", which led the representative of NVIDIA - is reducing the accident rate and mortality on the roads, increasing the mobility of people who can not drive a car, as well as optimizing the city infrastructure and reducing "unproductive time."

NVIDIA already cooperates with 225 manufacturers of auto components and cars, it calls on the US authorities to develop uniform federal rules that would regulate the testing of prototypes of "robobooms" on public roads in this country.  Now each state puts forward its demands, and if in one region of the USA there are no minimum restrictions on testing, then in another it may be necessary to accompany the prototype with a police car.  Closed polygons can not reproduce all possible scenarios, so active tests in real conditions would allow automatic control systems to gain experience faster.  Moreover, unified rules would simplify the testing of prototypes in different climatic zones and weather conditions.

Tesla recently notified customers that it uses fragments of photo and video taken by Tesla's on-board cameras to improve the company's autopilot system.  Owners of cars of this brand noted that the volume of outgoing traffic in their home wireless networks has increased significantly.  Electric cars diligently send "road sketches" to Tesla servers to speed up the accumulation of "collective experience".
