POSTER: computer news   ||    ENERMAX AND LEPA TALK ABOUT THE COMPATIBILITY OF THEIR COOLERS WITH INTEL LGA 2066

DATE:2017-05-26

As the source explains with the example of  Enermax and LEPA products, being the successor to the LGA 2011-3 connector, the new design for the flagship Intel desktop processors does not impose special requirements for compatibility with the coolers.  Thus, most suitable for LGA 2011-3 coolers can work with LGA 2066 processors.

Along the way, the tables explain the situation of compatibility of the listed cooling systems with motherboards equipped with the AMD Socket AM4 processor socket.

POSTER: computer news   ||    THE SHARE OF DISCRETE GRAPHICS SOLUTIONS IS GROWING STEADILY

DATE:2017-05-26

Experts Jon Peddie Research in their next report on the market for graphics solutions have confirmed the trend, which NVIDIA regularly mentions at its quarterly reporting conferences: the PC market is shrinking, but the share of discrete graphics is growing, as demand for it is dictated by increasingly demanding computer games.

As analysts note, the PC market has returned to the traditional cyclical nature of phenomena, and this can be considered a sign of some stabilization.  Interest in the same tablets, according to the authors of the study, disappeared in many, and the sales volume of these devices remains at the same level for the second consecutive quarter. In a quarterly comparison, the volume of graphics solutions sales decreased by 17.5%, and this is quite normal for this time of year.

Sales volumes of AMD graphics solutions decreased by 25%, Intel lost only 14% of its integrated graphics processors, while NVIDIA reduced sales volumes more than competitors by 26%.  It can not be said, however, that the share of PCs with discrete graphics solutions has grown in a consistent comparison.  On the contrary, in the first quarter, discrete graphics processors were present only in 31.36% of new PCs, which is 4.57 percentage points less than a quarter earlier.  The entire PC market in the sequential comparison decreased by 14.65%, in the annual comparison - by 1.74%.

The market for discrete graphics cards, which is typical, declined by 29.83% compared to the fourth quarter.  Obviously, the first quarter is not a season characterized by high demand for discrete graphics.

If we look at the dynamics for specific developers, AMD managed to sell 24.8% less graphics solutions for PCs than in the previous quarter.  In the desktop segment, the demand for discrete graphics solutions AMD decreased by 34.6%, in the mobile segment - by 16%.  AMD's hybrid processors demonstrated a decrease in demand by 22.2% in the desktop segment, and by 18.8% in the mobile segment.  Among all AMD processors desktop and mobile segment 66% has built-in graphics.  In addition, the company is still supplying chipset with integrated graphics.

Intel Corporation lost 13.9% in sales of graphics solutions compared to the fourth quarter, in the desktop segment Intel processors with integrated graphics sold 10.5% worse, in mobile - 8% worse.  Among all Intel processors not intended for use in servers, 99% is equipped with a graphics subsystem.

NVIDIA offers only discrete graphics solutions for PCs, and they were sold in the first quarter at 25.6% worse than in the previous one.  In the desktop segment, sales volumes decreased by 27.8%, in the mobile segment - by 23%.

In the first quarter, 82.6 million graphic solutions were sold, the demand for discrete graphics fell by 25.5% compared to the fourth quarter, but in the annual comparison it fell by 6%.  In general, in the last three years, sales volumes of discrete graphics solutions have been reduced by an average of 9% per year.  The popularity of gaming graphics cards is growing, but the aggregate demand for PCs is shrinking, there is nothing to be done about it.  Now on every PC an average of 1.36 graphics processor, including integrated cores.

POSTER: computer news   ||    ADATA ANNOUNCED NEW PCIE NVME SSD-DRIVES SERIES XPG SX9000

DATE:2017-05-25

ADATA company announced another line of SSD-drives with PCI-Express interface in M.2 (NGFF) version in addition to the already released ADATA XPG SX7000 and ADATA XPG SX8000.  The novelty is called ADATA XPG SX9000.

Unlike its predecessors, using the controller Silicon Motion SM2260G and 3D V-NAND (TLC and MLC), this drive is based on the controller Marvell 88SS1093.  The exact specifications of the novelty are left out of the picture, we only know that as a flash memory will be used Micron 3D MLC V-NAND, and the maximum volume in the line will be 1 TB.

ADATA promised to announce more detailed specifications (speed characteristics, assortment of volumes and modifications, bundling, warranty period) of new products in the framework of the forthcoming exhibition Computex 2017, which will open in five days, on May 30.

There are two interesting moments here.  Firstly, this drive is unique in that for the first time we see the Marvell 88SS1093 controller in conjunction with flash memory not from Toshiba-SanDisk / WD, as in Toshiba XG3, Toshiba RD400, WD Black PCIe, Plextor M8Pe, Plextor M8Se.  And the memory from Micron also with vertical layout of cells (3D V-NAND), whereas in the mentioned SSD memory is traditional planar.

Secondly, it can be noted that the presence of this controller is expanding on the market.  Compare with its predecessor Marvell 88SS9293, which could be found in essence only in the form of Kingston HyperX Predator, although its characteristics did not disappoint .

POSTER: computer news   ||    ALMOST FIVE PERCENT OF NVIDIA SHARES BELONG TO THE OWNER OF ARM

DATE:2017-05-25

Having acquired some time ago assets of the British holding company ARM, the Japanese company Softbank has proved that it will invest not only in young companies, but also in mature ones.  This week, Bloomberg said that Softbank owns 4.9% of NVIDIA shares for a total of about $ 4 billion.

Under US law, Softbank was required to disclose the size of its NVIDIA package, if it had more than five percent of the company's shares.  Japanese investors preferred not to cross this threshold, and therefore for a long time remained in the shadows.  Only the formation of the venture fund Vision Fund forced Softbank to acknowledge the availability of a stake in NVIDIA in its portfolio of assets.  By the way, the Japanese company is the fourth largest shareholder of NVIDIA.  Given that the financial performance of the latter is steadily improving, buying NVIDIA shares can be a good investment of money.  It's hard to say whether Softbank is pursuing purely speculative goals, or is looking to become a strategic investor in NVIDIA.
