POSTER: computer news   ||   THE GAME VERSION OF AMD VEGA WILL BE SHOWN ON COMPUTEX, BUT IT WILL NOT GO ON SALE IMMEDIATELY

DATE:2017-05-19

The head of the graphic division AMD Raja Koduri urged the audience to wait a bit for the release of the game version of Vega, promising to compensate for the agonizing expectation of a high level of performance.  At a question and answer session on the pages of the resource Reddit, he explained that the game version of Radeon RX Vega will be shown on Computex 2017, which will start on May 31, but the video card will not be available for sale at the same time.

But the head of the company's profile division said that in games Radeon RX Vega will show a higher performance than the recently presented accelerator Radeon Vega Frontier Edition.  In connection with the latter, it was also said that the serial version of the video card will be equipped with two eight-pin additional power connectors, and the liquid-cooled version will operate at slightly higher frequencies.  AMD will think about the possibility of releasing a Vega video game card with 16 GB of HBM2 memory.

In general, the situation with the availability of HBM2 has somewhat improved, and now video card manufacturers can at least choose between the products of SK Hynix and Samsung.  Koduri hopes that this will allow more affordable video cards to be allocated to memory HBM2 type - however, for the "reference point" it takes expensive NVIDIA computational accelerators, so against their background even flagship game products will seem cheap, although their price will be not one hundred dollars .  By the way, AMD promises to think over the possibility of overclocking memory type HBM2.

Accelerators Radeon Vega Frontier Edition are equipped with two memory stacks type HBM2.  This means that the volume of 16 GB, they gain two eight-tiered stacks of 8 GB each.  Game demos at the last event were shown using the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition version with an air cooling system.  Memory type HBM2 provides certain layout advantages, so the game versions of Radeon RX Vega will be released in form factors, suitable for placement in mini-ITX systems.  Raja Koduri promised not to shave his beard until the game Radeon RX Vega will not be presented.

On the reproaches of skeptics, calling Vega "an improved version of Polaris" Raja Koduri replied that this graphic solution uses not only a new architecture, but also a new layout.  In particular, this is the first graphics processor supporting the high-speed Infinity Fabric interface.

Officially, the speech of AMD representatives on Computex 2017 is scheduled for May 31, and speech at the event will go about future products.

POSTER: computer news   ||    INTEL SHOWED THE OPERATION OF THE SYSTEM WITH AN ARRAY OF MEMORY DIMM 3D XPOINT

DATE:2017-05-19

Created by engineers from Intel and Micron, the non-volatile 3D XPoint memory is designed to replace NAND memory in solid state (SSD) drives and DRAM as part of RAM modules.  A month ago, Intel began to supply SSDs on 3D XPoint memory to the market under the Optane brand.  In the form of DIMM-modules new memory will appear on the market in 2018.  This is reported on the official page of the company.

The first public demonstration working system with a memory array from DIMM 3D XPoint modules was held recently in the fields of the SAP Sapphire conference in Orlando.  The representative of Intel showed how the system behaves and, in particular, the SAP HANA database when the application is launched on the 3D XPoint array.  This memory does not need regeneration operations and is not afraid of shutting down the system.  In addition, it is much denser than DRAM memory.  Running databases on arrays from non-volatile memory of a new type, are sure in Intel, will change the entire previous paradigm of computing devices.  Instead of expensive, slow and losing information when the memory is turned off, the industry will get affordable, capacious and constantly storing data memory.  Even without power.

Memory DIMM 3D XPoint will complement the updated family of Intel Xeon Scalable processors.  The new family will be released with the encoding in the form of breakdown by classes, which the company will encrypt with the names of precious metals: platinum, gold, silver and bronze.  This will be the Xeon generation of Skylake (we are waiting for them in the summer).  Models Xeon Scalable Skylake Refresh, which are the first to support the memory of DIMM 3D XPoint, are still hidden behind the code name Cascade Lake.  You can expect that they will be Xeon Kaby Lake.

POSTER: computer news   ||    INTEL DENIES THE INTENTION TO USE AMD GRAPHICS IN ITS PROCESSORS

DATE:2017-05-19

One of the main news of yesterday's evening was clearly worth it to wait with the publication until the morning.  As you know, Fudzilla's rumor about Intel's intentions to use AMD's graphic design in its integrated processors caused an increase in the share price of the latter and an unprecedented interest of the audience. Intel Representatives did not comment on this issue at first, but from the pages of Barron's blog the official position was voiced - these rumors about cooperation with AMD are not true.

Colleagues from the site Fudzilla such behavior Intel did not embarrass.  They said they were confident in their sources of information, and to deny the willingness to use AMD graphics in their processors is now in the interest of Intel.

The license agreement between Intel and NVIDIA, which allowed the first of the companies to produce processors with integrated graphics, expired on March 31 this year, and the parties did not renew it.  Now Intel is seeking help from AMD, and it was done in advance.

INTEL DENIES THE INTENTION TO USE AMD GRAPHICS IN ITS PROCESSORS

POSTER: computer news   ||    A SIGNIFICANT PART OF THE CRYSTALS OF AMD RYZEN PROCESSORS DO NOT HAVE NUCLEAR DEFECTS

DATE:2017-05-19

As you know, all the AMD Ryzen processors in the Socket AM4 version now physically have eight cores on the chip, and some of the cores are simply turned off to create younger models.  In the conditions of serial production, this approach has its pluses and minuses.  For example, if the yield level of suitable crystals was not high enough, it would allow for the realization of some of the rejected crystals, rather than throwing them away.  Again, the cost of manufacturing an eight-core crystal should be low enough to make it profitable for processors with four cores, for example.  Sometimes it is more expedient to develop and launch a more compact crystal for younger processors in the series.

Colleagues from the site Bits & Chips.it argue that now the yield of good eight-core chips among the AMD Ryzen processors is quite high - it exceeds 80%.  The authors of the publication believe that this will allow AMD to offer attractive prices for server processors EPYC (Naples), assembled from four crystals on one substrate.  The debut of the processors is scheduled for the end of June, so we can make a conclusion regarding AMD's pricing policy next month.
