DATE:2017-05-12

As we have already noted, Russian overclockers in recent days are intensively overclocking GeForce GTX 1080 Ti video cards with all available means, and  12 overckocked the Asus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti ROG Strix OC Edition video card up to 2375 / 12800 MHz using liquid nitrogen.  Along with the overclocking of the Core i7-6950X CPU to 5170 MHz, this provided the Russian overclocker with three second places in the 3DMark Fire Strike test series.

Finally, in the 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra test, the enthusiast was in second place in the overall standings with a score of 9036 points.

POSTER: computer news   ||    INTEL BEGAN SHIPPING THE LATEST ITANIUM PROCESSORS

DATE:2017-05-12

In February this year it became known that the Itanium processors Kittson generation should soon enter the market as part of the HPE server systems running the HP-UX operating system.  In fact, the only supporter of these endangered processors among server manufacturers is now Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which promises to provide support for the proposed systems until 2025.  The next update of the operating system will be released next month.  But even HPE does its utmost to convince customers to migrate to Xeon E7 processors.

According to the website of PCWorld with reference to the comments of Intel representatives, the company this week began shipping the first processors of the Itanium 9700 series (Kittson), which are destined to become the latest carriers of the corresponding architecture.  The new processors are compatible on the connector with the predecessors of the Itanium 9500 series (Poulson), there is no need to change the motherboards.  Intel representatives confirmed that Kittson is the last family of Itanium, although they did not specify how long the deliveries will last.

In its time, Itanium was to become the locomotive of 64-bit solutions not only in the server segment, but also in the desktop, but the emergence of AMD processors with 64-bit extensions on the market made Intel hastily transfer its own processors of the server and consumer class to the 64-bit platform .  It turned out that in the inevitable death of Itanium, AMD is partly to blame, although problems with this infrastructure were enough without it.  Gradually from the support of Itanium software developers refused, and the operation of the respective servers became more and more troublesome.

POSTER: computer news   ||    THE REVENUE OF NVIDIA HAS BEEN STEADILY GROWING OVER THE PAST EIGHT YEARS

DATE:2017-05-12

Strengthened by 18% on the first day after the publication of the quarterly report   NVIDIA, the company's share price continued its growth yesterday, although only by 4.3%.  An interesting picture turns out: if in the case of AMD, the modest presence of the company in the OEM sector is considered to be one of the factors that caused the stock price decline, then NVIDIA in the server segment sees a threefold increase in revenue, and the company's shares are also becoming more expensive.  True, we should not forget that NVIDIA's quarterly report as a whole creates a more favorable impression, while AMD is just preparing to break even, although it reports on the successes of Ryzen processors in the retail segment.

Colleagues from 3DCenter.org are famous for their ability to learn statistics over long periods, and this time they took NVIDIA's quarterly reports over the past ten years to track how revenue, net profit and operating profit changed.  The graph above shows that somewhere in 2009, the revenue of NVIDIA is steadily growing, and in the last year it has generally grown significantly.  The first quarter of each fiscal year is characterized by a seasonal drop in demand, so we see characteristic "failures" on the chart.

If we take into account that NVIDIA's management has been tirelessly repeating the demand for gaming graphics cards, the proportional improvement of the company's financial indicators confirms this trend.  I would like to believe that AMD will be able to rise on such a curve.

POSTER: computer news   ||    COMPAL BELIEVES THAT DEMAND FOR PC WILL RETURN TO GROWTH THIS YEAR

DATE:2017-05-12

The status of a large contract manufacturer of computers and mobile devices allows the president of Compal Electronics to make authoritative statements and forecasts about the development trend of the market.  As the DigiTimes resource notes , the head of this contract manufacturer believes that the demand for personal computers will return to growth already this year.  In any case, Compal itself expects to increase PC production volumes by 10% to 40 million units at the end of the year.

There are, however, some important reservations.  First, the demand for PCs will begin to grow mainly from corporate consumers, who will face the end of the cycle of support for Windows 7. Secondly, the demand for computers from the consumer market will also grow, albeit gradually.  In any case, European consumers have already begun to take an active interest in new computers, as noted in Compal.

In the current quarter, there is a shortage of RAM and displays, but the situation is still better than before.  Demand and supply will approach equilibrium in the third quarter, according to President Compal.  Solid-state drives will remain in deficit until 2018, because production capacity is simply not enough.
