Some time ago, Apple notified Imagination Technologies about plans in 15-24 months to stop licensing payments for PowerVR graphics cores.  Thus, Imagination will be in a situation where its revenues suddenly drop by a value of 30% to 50%.   Yesterday, Imagination Technologies reported that attempts to resolve the dispute and conclude an alternative deal on Apple's use of PowerVR graphics cores did not lead to anything.  Representatives of Apple stand on their own: royalties for the PowerVR cores will be stopped.  Proceeding from such a position of the client, Imagination company is forced to begin the procedure of legitimate resolution of the dispute.  Simultaneously, Imagination announced the decision to sell two other key divisions: the MIPS solution development team and the Ensigma group to develop wireless solutions for integration into computing platforms. What happens with Imagination is the destruction of the company's dream of becoming a "second ARM".  In 2012, Imagination, in auction, acquired MIPS assets and 82 key MIPS patents for processor architectures. ARM company , as you know, the asset has both computing cores, and graphics.  This allows you to create integrated solutions "full cycle".  Prior to the purchase of MIPS, Imagination had only graphics cores.  The acquisition of patents and developments of MIPS opened the way to the market of full-fledged processors before the Imagination platforms and to the golden dream of ARM - to start the game on the server platform market.  According to the previous plans of Imagination, by 2018 the company expected to capture up to 25% of the processor market.  Alas, today's actions of Apple not only put an end to these plans, they surely bury Imagination as an independent company.
