In one of the interviews devoted to the debut of Ryzen processors, AMD representatives already admitted that the processors of previous generations will not disappear anywhere from the market and will be located in the relevant price segments.  Discussing with the analysts the results of the second quarter , AMD head Lisa Su confirmed that the "legacy products" will remain on the market until the end of this year, at least. Different regions are moving to new platforms with different speeds, and so the processors of previous generations successfully supplement the latest solutions, as the head of AMD explains.  The motherboard park with Socket AM3 + (and older) is large enough, and the company is ready to support the old platforms.  However, it is not specified how actively it will do it next year.  As we found out today, the full range of Ryzen processors will be available by November, including mobile versions. At the quarterly report conference, AMD described in detail its plans to bring new products to the market by the end of the year.  And the fact that there is no separate mention of the 16-core versions of Ryzen is not so obvious - in fact, they are the same AMD desktop processors as Ryzen 3, so they can hide behind the common logo on the profile slide of the presentation. Capital expenditures of the company in the first quarter increased by 7.5-9%, depending on the calculation methodology.  Moreover, in the second quarter AMD expects to increase capital costs by 1.6%.  Let in absolute terms, these are not such large amounts, but AMD spends 26-27% of its revenue on developing new products and technologies. Naturally, AMD representatives could not ignore this topic at the quarterly reporting conference.  According to the company's management, now the costs for product development are concentrated in two main segments: graphics solutions and server components.  Moreover, the company recognizes that the transition to 7-nm technology will require an increase in the cost of purchasing photomasks.  The latter, although used only by contractors, are now displayed in accounting reports as AMD property - at least, if we are talking about photo masks used to produce serial products.  The company intends to switch from 14-nm technology directly to 7-nm technology. The well-known manufacturer of maintenance-free liquid cooling systems - Asetek - published a report on its work in the first quarter of 2017 calendar year.  During the reporting period, the company raised $ 11.5 million, which is 10% more than the revenue for the same quarter of the previous year.  The engine of revenue, as admitted in the company, was the desktop video card market.  More precisely, the demand for self-installed users on the graphics adapters of maintenance-free CBOs. At the same time, Asetek is trying hard to break into the market for unattended server cooling systems.  In recent years, the company has done a lot for this.  However, in the current reporting period, the decline in interest in server cooling systems has undermined the revenue of Asetek in this direction.  So, in the first quarter, the revenue from products for the data center was $ 400,000, although a year earlier on that front, it earned $ 1 million for the quarter. The decrease in revenue did not stop Asetek's investment in the server area, which is still accompanied by net losses (all profits and, in addition, are invested in Development). A separate reason for pride was the conclusion of a contract with another major server manufacturer about the beginning of joint developments in the field of server liquid cooling systems.  At the same time, the company's name was not disclosed. Finally, Asetek received the long-awaited compensation payments from CMI USA, Inc.  (Cooler Master).  This story runs from 2004, when Asetek sued Cooler Master and accused it of violating a number of its patents .  According to the court's decision, CMI paid Asetek $ 600,000.
