POSTER: computer news   ||   EVGA HAS RELEASED NEW BIOS FOR ITS GEFORCE GTX 1080, WHICH ACCELERATE THE MEMORY

DATE:2017-04-21

Yesterday , NVIDIA officially introduced the updated GeForce GTX 1060 and GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards, which used faster memory, and before that several large manufacturers presented their versions of these video cards.  EVGA will also produce such video cards, but for now it has prepared a pleasant surprise for existing users of some video cards.

The company has released updated BIOS versions for several of its GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards, due to which the memory of these graphics accelerators will work with an effective frequency of 11 GHz instead of the previous 10 GHz.  New BIOS versions can already be downloaded ( here ) for the following video cards:

* EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW2 iCX;

* EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW2 DT iCX;

* EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC2 iCX;

* EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 iCX.

This update provides the memory system  of the above video cards with a throughput of 352 GB / s, which has a positive effect on performance.  The company published screenshots of test results in Unigine Superposition Benchmark.  The increase was more than 3%, which can not be called an outstanding result, but to achieve it you just need to update the firmware.

In the end, we note that the EVGA company warns that for some, a small number of video cards after the upgrade can be unstable.  Therefore, the company recommends immediately to test the video card in any "heavy" game or benchmark, and in case of problems immediately contact the technical support of EVGA.

POSTER: computer news   ||   THE PURCHASE OF TOSHIBA ASSETS BY WESTERN DIGITAL WOULD SUIT EVERYONE, EXCEPT ANTIMONOPOLISTS

DATE:2017-04-21

For Western Digital Corporation, the priority is to maintain the competitiveness of the joint venture with Toshiba, but under certain conditions, an American company may consider participating in the purchase of assets for sale.  For example, Japanese investment funds may come to the aid of an already heavily invested corporation to acquire SanDisk.  Moreover, this idea has already been approved in the profile Japanese ministry, as Reuters specifies.

According to Japanese media, Japanese INCJ and DBJ are ready to buy up to 30% of the shares of the new company that Toshiba puts up for auction.  For Western Digital, participating in such a transaction is not only a chance to ease the financial burden, but also the opportunity to enlist the support of the Japanese government.  There remain two main problems.  First, Broadcom also wants to cooperate with Japanese investors.  Secondly, WDC's participation in the purchase of Toshiba's core business will raise questions with  authorities.  Judge for yourself, WDC and Toshiba now control 16% and 19% of the NAND memory market, respectively, Samsung accounts for 35%.  After a hypothetical deal between WDC and Toshiba, a strong competitor will appear in the Korean giant.

In a word, the situation affects the interests of many companies, and therefore the talks promise to be long and complicated.  Toshiba, in turn, is set to dialogue with WDC, and will soon provide a written response to the claims of the American corporation.

POSTER: computer news   ||    FACEBOOK DEVELOPS A TECHNOLOGY TO TRANSFER TEXT FROM THE BRAIN TO THE COMPUTER

DATE:2017-04-21

Humanity has long been trying to establish a connection between the brain and the computer, bypassing traditional interfaces.  Some of the profile developments even reach the stage of mass production - it's enough to recall OCZ Neural Impulse Actuator , which even visited our Laboratory in preparation for the review.  Recently it became known that the restless Ilon Mask founded the company Neuralink, which is tasked to develop a way to transfer information from the brain to the memory of the computer.  Wards of the Californian billionaire intend to implant for this in the human brain electrodes, at least.

Agency Bloomberg reports that at a profile event F8 representatives of Facebook told of their intentions to develop a technology that allows you to send text to your computer with the help of thought.  In a few years, according to the developers, this way it will be possible to type text at a rate of at least 100 words per minute.  The system that allows this will simply capture electromagnetic impulses of the brain, no surgical interventions will be required to work with it.  The existing prototypes, according to the authors of the idea, allow you to dial up to eight words per minute.

Even traditional voice channels of information transfer pale in its bandwidth before the "telepathic interface."  Facebook compares our speech with the modems of the eighties of the last century, while the brain is able to transmit "four films with HD resolution per second."  Someday, according to company representatives, the "telepathic interface" will allow us to operate with mental images, rather than in separate letters.  Communication among speakers of different languages will be simplified due to the wedging in the process of "telepathic information exchange" of machine translation systems.

Such technologies will simplify the process of socialization of people who have lost the ability to perceive information by ear.  Healthy Facebook customers will be able to send text messages in places with increased noise.  Send information in the opposite direction Facebook wants to learn through the skin.  From the context it is impossible to say whether this technology has something in common with the "vibrational" methods of transmitting sound to the inner ear of a person.

POSTER: computer news   ||    THE DANISH DATA CENTER OF APPLE WILL SAVE NEIGHBORING FARMERS FROM WASTE

DATE:2017-04-21

IBM was one of the first companies to offer cooling of server systems with liquid, and the heat energy they allocated was not in vain, but was used to heat office space - at least in Switzerland such energy saving methods worked without problems.

Care for nature has become an important part of the development policy for the American giant.  All American data centers Apple, like the company headquarters, use only renewable energy sources.  In general, the world's share of renewable energy for data centers does not exceed 96%, because in some regions, Apple's servers are operated at third-party leased sites.  The company intends to spend about $ 1.8 billion on the construction of two data centers in Northern Europe: Denmark and Ireland.

In the first case, the heat generated by the server equipment will be used to heat the surrounding residential buildings.  In addition, the data center will use methane to generate electricity, resulting from the processing of waste from livestock farms located in Denmark.  In addition to methane, this technology allows to get organic fertilizers, which will be returned to farmers engaged in plant growing.  From a local power grid, the Danish data center of Apple will not consume a watt of electricity.

The Irish data center of Apple will be powered by systems that generate electricity due to sea waves.  The iPhone manufacturer also seeks to reuse the bulk of the structural materials used to produce its own products.  Such a policy should help slow the depletion of the world's natural resources.
