POSTER: computer news   ||   PLAINTIFFS ON THE CASE OF ACCESS TO MEMORY GEFORCE GTX 970 BEGAN TO RECEIVE COMPENSATION FROM NVIDIA

DATE:2017-04-18

Recall that the group lawsuit meant payment to each person who bought in the US territory in a certain period a GeForce GTX 970 video card a cash payment of $ 30, which would compensate for the "truncation" of the memory system.  Total for these needs NVIDIA will have to spend $ 4.5 million. According to the resource Bursor & Fisher , on April 11 this year, the first participants in the class claim against NVIDIA in the GeForce GTX 970 case received their $ 30.  The court ordered the company to make similar payments as early as December 7 last year, but the money reached the "victims" only now.  The right to compensation was received only by those who joined the collective lawsuit and signed an appropriate petition in advance.  Incidentally, such initiatives were put forward by different lawyers' offices , in different jurisdictions, but not all petitions received a move in court.

It's hard to keep in mind all the actual changes in AMD and Intel's processor plans, so PC Games Hardware's colleagues periodically update the "homemade road map", which allows a quick glance at  to understand where these CPU makers will move in the coming months.

Recall that we are at the beginning of the second quarter, and the market already has processors from Intel Kaby Lake, as well as processors AMD Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 generations Summit Ridge.  Until the end of this quarter, Intel can introduce LGA 2066-compliant processors for enthusiasts that will be divided into two categories: Kaby Lake-X for budget-conscious buyers of expensive motherboards, and Skylake-X .

Processors Bristol Ridge in Socket AM4 to retail networks, according to German colleagues, will reach the beginning of the third quarter, although they were offered in the segment of ready computers from the last half-year.  Despite compatibility with motherboards, in which Ryzen processors work, representatives of the Bristol Ridge family use the older architecture of Excavator.

The output of hybrid processors AMD Raven Ridge in the same version, German colleagues are waiting not earlier than the end of the fourth quarter.  But they are attributed to the graphics subsystem with the architecture of Vega, as well as the possibility of existence in the 16-nm version.  In the first quarter of next year, Pinnacle Ridge processors with Zen + architecture (Zen 2) can be introduced.

As for the timing of the announcement of new Intel processors in the second half of the year, German colleagues do not cherish illusions.  If 10-nm Cannon Lake and will appear at the end of the fourth quarter, then exclusively in the mobile segment, and desktop 14-nm Coffee Lake will be released early next year.  However, Chinese sources recently announced that the release of desktop processors Coffee Lake-S will begin this year.  Perhaps it's about different events, because the mass production of processors begins before their official announcement in order to create a sufficient supply of finished products.

A LOOK AT AMD AND INTELS PROCESSOR PLANS

POSTER: computer news   ||    INTEL HAS CANCELED ANNUAL FORUMS IDF

DATE:2017-04-18

All the latest speeches by the management of Intel in one way or another contained the idea that the era of personal computers came to an end.  The company no longer puts the PC and related products and products at the center of its attention.  It prefers to talk about clouds, artificial intelligence, autopilots, robots and mobile platforms of the fifth generation.  Yesterday, Intel seemed to put an end to all of its messages predicting the end of the PC era - on the pages of the company's resource there was a message that annual events in the form of Intel Developer Forum (IDF) forums will no longer be.  Last year's August forum IDF 2016 was the last in the history of the company.

At the moment, the company is looking for new forms of communication with developers and customers.  Perhaps in the future it will hold only thematic events, organize meetings with analysts, as AMD does or come up with a different form of story about immediate and long-term plans.  In any case,  Intel site always remains the place where the expert can try to find answers to  questions.  The news feed on the company's website, by the way, has also changed.  Approximately half a year Intel submits news not only in the form of press releases, but also discloses information on the topic through the mouths of its official representatives in the form of, say, live speech.

We understand Intel, but we will miss IDF forums.  After all, it was two decades of regular and extensive information events .

INTEL HAS CANCELED ANNUAL FORUMS IDF

POSTER: computer news   ||    INTEL AGAIN SPEAKS ABOUT THE GEOGRAPHY OF ITS ENTERPRISES

DATE:2017-04-18

Intel Corporation took more than three months to prepare an annual report for the 2016 financial year.  In principle, this is a normal practice - April for many workers of the accounting sphere is a month of hard work precisely because of the preparation of the annual report.

In this not very interesting document, for the most part of its contents, it is possible to find references to the geography of Intel enterprises, which does not change much from year to year.  As if wanting to please the new US administration, Intel in its annual report laconically reports that in 2016 most of the semiconductor products of the brand were made in the territory of this country.  However, Intel has enterprises outside the United States: factories in Ireland, Israel and China which make not only processors and chipset, but also solid-state memory (in the latter case, it's a new production in Dalian, China).

Testing and packaging of Intel products are carried out by enterprises in Malaysia, China and Vietnam.  In 2016, all Intel processors were manufactured using silicon wafers with a size of 300 mm, mainly using 22-nm and 14-nm process technology.

It is interesting to note that on the world map according to Intel, the territory of the Russian Federation is labeled as a country in which "more than 50 employees" of the corporation work.  Intel does not provide an accurate breakdown of personnel by country, but explains that more than half of the total number of staff (106 thousand people) work in the US.

At the same time, China has long been the main source of revenue for Intel, followed by the United States, and Singapore by the third.  Most likely, a tiny state is simply used to conduct transactions for the purpose of tax optimization.  The cost of fixed assets located outside the United States is also not so great - only a third of the aggregate amount, with Ireland and Israel being the leaders due to the presence of Intel production capacities in these countries.
