POSTER: computer news   ||    THE END OF MAY WILL IMPROVE MEMORY OVERCLOCKING ON AMD RYZEN PLATFORMS

DATE:2017-05-20

After the release of Ryzen processors in March, AMD continues to polish the new desktop platforms.  It has something to work on, for example, improving the stability of memory with overclocking.  The company honestly admits that Ryzen's status as a processor for overclocking could shut its eyes to the unstable operation of platforms in overstated modes.  And yet, the company decided to work with a community of overclockers to maximize the work of new products at abnormal frequencies.  So, the next update of the AGESA BIOS package, which promises to improve overclocking on AMD Ryzen platforms, will appear in late May.

At the moment, AMD representatives recommend to use DDR4 memory modules on Samsung B-die crystals to reach frequencies of 3000 MHz and higher.  At the same time, memory sets on SK Hynix FMR crystals (at a frequency of 3200 MHz) and other manufacturers successfully demonstrated themselves in overclocking in AMD labs.  Also, stability in operation at a frequency of 3200 MHz on memory with Samsung E-die and C-die crystals was achieved.  All this will be reflected in the newer versions of the BIOS.

Also in the company AMD work closely with manufacturers of motherboards.  It is noted that of the mass of the tested motherboards on the B350 chipset, only a few of them could work stably with memory at a frequency of 3200 MHz.  Influence on it renders, quantity of layers of metallization and another.  To increase the working memory frequencies, changes in the design of the boards are required.  Another company AMD is working with the JEDEC committee, which is responsible for memory standards.  Some things today have to be remade anew in order to better correspond to the moment.  The main thing for us is that the work on improving the platform does not stop.

POSTER: computer news   ||   MSI ADMITTED IN THE PREPARATION OF THE X299 GAMING PRO BOARD

DATE:2017-05-20

A couple of days ago, MSI on its Facebook page presented part of the advertising image of the motherboard with the inscription "Gaming Pro".  Most likely this could be a motherboard based on the Intel X299 chipset supporting the LGA 2066 processor socket. This is a new socket for the Intel platform, replacing the LGA 2011 v3 connector.  In other words, we see a base for future productive desktop systems on top Intel solutions: Core i7 processors "Kaby Lake-X" and Core i9 "Skylake-X".

In particular, in the image we see four slots for DDR4 memory out of eight possible (what we were allowed to see).  Also we see part of the new LGA 2066 processor socket. From what we saw, we can conclude that the mechanism for fixing the processor coolers for the LGA 2066 connector will be similar to the LGA 2011 v3 mounting mechanism.  Therefore, the manufacturers of cooling systems do not have to strain much to ensure compatibility - the maximum release the appropriate overlay.

Connectors for additional power on the board two: one 8-pin EPS and one 4-pin ATX.  This opens up the possibility to install Core i9 "Skylake-X" processors with TDP over 140W into the system.  However, MSI X299 Gaming Pro is a product, rather, for a mass production segment, and not for the highest one.  For flagship platforms, MSI will release other cards.

POSTER: computer news   ||    APPLE WILL SUPPLY 5-6 MILLION 10.5-INCH IPAD PRO UNTIL THE END OF 2017

DATE:2017-05-20

Apple is preparing to release a new model iPad Pro , equipped with a 10.5-inch display.  It is rumored to be announced at the beginning of June as part of WWDC 2017 and by the end of the year it will be sold in several million copies.  This was reported by sources from the supply chain.

Sources say that the new iPad Pro with a 10.5-inch display went into mass production in March-April 2017.  The monthly volume of shipment of a new tablet is growing and now amounts to approximately 500,000 units, and in July it will reach 600,000 units.  According to sources, before the end of 2017, Apple plans to deliver 5 to 6 million iPad Pro with a 10.5-inch screen.

As for the recently announced affordable iPad with a 9.7-inch display, the demand for it, according to sources, will peak in the third quarter of 2017.  Its monthly deliveries in June and July will exceed 4 million units.  It is noted that Apple, launching a new 9.7-inch iPad, will gradually give up the iPad mini 4.

Also Apple this year will update its 12.9-inch iPad Pro.  According to market observers, its mass production will start in June, and stable supplies will begin in the third quarter.

Despite the new strategy and launch of new products, analysts still expect that iPad sales will decline compared to the previous year.

POSTER: computer news   ||   THE GAME VERSION OF AMD VEGA WILL BE SHOWN ON COMPUTEX, BUT IT WILL NOT GO ON SALE IMMEDIATELY

DATE:2017-05-19

The head of the graphic division AMD Raja Koduri urged the audience to wait a bit for the release of the game version of Vega, promising to compensate for the agonizing expectation of a high level of performance.  At a question and answer session on the pages of the resource Reddit, he explained that the game version of Radeon RX Vega will be shown on Computex 2017, which will start on May 31, but the video card will not be available for sale at the same time.

But the head of the company's profile division said that in games Radeon RX Vega will show a higher performance than the recently presented accelerator Radeon Vega Frontier Edition.  In connection with the latter, it was also said that the serial version of the video card will be equipped with two eight-pin additional power connectors, and the liquid-cooled version will operate at slightly higher frequencies.  AMD will think about the possibility of releasing a Vega video game card with 16 GB of HBM2 memory.

In general, the situation with the availability of HBM2 has somewhat improved, and now video card manufacturers can at least choose between the products of SK Hynix and Samsung.  Koduri hopes that this will allow more affordable video cards to be allocated to memory HBM2 type - however, for the "reference point" it takes expensive NVIDIA computational accelerators, so against their background even flagship game products will seem cheap, although their price will be not one hundred dollars .  By the way, AMD promises to think over the possibility of overclocking memory type HBM2.

Accelerators Radeon Vega Frontier Edition are equipped with two memory stacks type HBM2.  This means that the volume of 16 GB, they gain two eight-tiered stacks of 8 GB each.  Game demos at the last event were shown using the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition version with an air cooling system.  Memory type HBM2 provides certain layout advantages, so the game versions of Radeon RX Vega will be released in form factors, suitable for placement in mini-ITX systems.  Raja Koduri promised not to shave his beard until the game Radeon RX Vega will not be presented.

On the reproaches of skeptics, calling Vega "an improved version of Polaris" Raja Koduri replied that this graphic solution uses not only a new architecture, but also a new layout.  In particular, this is the first graphics processor supporting the high-speed Infinity Fabric interface.

Officially, the speech of AMD representatives on Computex 2017 is scheduled for May 31, and speech at the event will go about future products.
