POSTER: computer news   ||    BATTLEFIELD 1 WILL HAVE SPECIALIZATIONS

DATE:2017-08-07

Fans of Battlefield perfectly remember the specializations system  : this is a kind of bonus abilities for all occasions of life and death, which made it easier for you to fight.  In Battlefield 3, for example, a well-coordinated squad with specializations could carry much more ammunition and explosives, get less damage and not suffer so much from the effect of suppression.

Unfortunately, Battlefield 1 was deprived of this mechanics.  But, as it turned out, not forever.  In the section Reddit, dedicated to Battlefield, one of the employees of DICE appeared and published a list of specializations that will soon be available on the test server spaces.

Specializations are divided into two types: general and class;  In the beginning, each player has three basic basic abilities, and the rest can be unlocked, performing service tasks - a new element of the game process that will appear in Battlefield 1 with the release of the supplement "In the name of the king."

At the moment, developers have come up with seven general specializations and eight classifications - two for each standard class.  You can see them on the same page in Reddit.  In the future, a list of available specializations is planned to be replenished

BATTLEFIELD 1 WILL HAVE SPECIALIZATIONS

POSTER: computer news   ||    THE PRICE OF MEMORY CONTINUES TO GROW

DATE:2017-08-06

For a year, wholesale prices for DRAM-type memory have grown by a dozen percent a month.  Since autumn, the wholesale value of NAND chips has grown.  In each of these cases, the demand for smartphones is partly to blame.  Memory LPDDR3 and LPDDR4 are of interest to memory manufacturers more than some DDR4 memory for PCs, and NAND flash, alas, is needed not only for SSD, but also for storage systems with smartphones.  And the popularity of video and images in high definition quickly eat up the capacity of built-in flash memory provided by manufacturers.  In the course are memory cards and pull the demand for chips.

Recently, the Japanese unit of the well-known Taiwanese company Transcend Information reported that it is barely able to satisfy only half of the orders placed on the memory chips.  This predictably leads to an increase in purchasing prices for products.  Some lulliness in the smartphone market in the first half of this year is replaced in July by the growing activity of manufacturers.  This is especially evident in Chinese manufacturers, including such actively growing newcomers as Vivo and Oppo Electronics.  The invasion of similar manufacturers on the Indian market creates an additional burden on the memory market, and the beginning of preparation for the autumn-winter sales will only aggravate the situation with a memory deficit.

According to Transcend Information, in July in the wholesale market of 64-Gbit NAND TLC chips cost $ 3.50, which is 13% higher than June's prices.  The DDR3 memory chips with a capacity of 4 Gb per month went up by 3% - up to $ 3.10 per chip.  This imbalance in the increase in the cost of memory chips forces manufacturers to give priority to the production of memory for smartphones, reducing the share of products for the PC and, in fact, pushing the price of memory for computers higher and higher.

Nintendo, which promised to increase the production of the game consoles Switch in July and August, can suffer from a memory deficit.  The RAM system of the Switch relies on mobile DRAM, similar to that installed in smartphones.  The latter's deficit risks negating Nintendo's efforts to throw out additional lots of interesting consoles to the market.  But we still have a jubilee iPhone!  This product promises to include a lot of new, including increased capacity of memory systems.  In general, there is nothing to rejoice.

POSTER: computer news   ||    AMD RADEON VEGA FRONTIER EDITION AND LIQUID NITROGEN FIRST IMPRESSIONS

DATE:2017-08-06

Before the first official reviews of the game video card Radeon RX Vega 64 we are separated by more than a week, although unofficial data on the speed of the novelty is already available.  Nevertheless, the well-known overclocker Buildzoid has so far been able to get only the professional accelerator Radeon Vega Frontier Edition, subjecting it to a test with liquid nitrogen when trying to overclock.  The experiment will continue after the appearance of a suitable driver and replenishment of liquid nitrogen reserves, but for now it is necessary to be satisfied with the first impressions.

Good news can be attributed to the good tolerability of the graphics processor Vega 10 negative temperatures.  Up to a mark of minus 185 degrees Celsius there were no problems, and then the author did not advance, and even to the boiling point of liquid nitrogen is already within reach.  There is some layout inconvenience - the graphics processor is placed close to the back panel, and therefore when using liquid nitrogen, the outlets are quickly covered with frost.  The power elements are covered with frost when the video card is running without load, but in resource-intensive tests the frost begins to melt.

The features of abutting HBM2 memory chips to the base of the tank with liquid nitrogen are not fully understood.  Perhaps in a particular experiment, the contact was loose, and therefore the memory could not be overclocked to more than 1100 MHz.

At a nominal voltage of 1.2 V, the graphics processor was able to overclock to 1800 MHz.  Formally, the 2000 MHz boundary was also overcome, but the performance measurements at this frequency showed that the performance fell below the mode using nominal frequencies.  But the energy consumption when using liquid nitrogen is reduced by 100 W at once.  The author of the experiment is convinced that with increased voltage, liquid nitrogen will allow to stably overclock over 2000 MHz "in the core".

POSTER: computer news   ||   THE FIRST TEST RESULTS OF AMD RYZEN THREADRIPPER

DATE:2017-08-06

Linus Tech Tips managed to get a copy of the Dell Alienware Area 51 based on the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X processor at its full disposal, but the colleagues did not follow the example of the Hot Hardware site and limit themselves in publishing test results.  Apparently, the team Hot Hardware went to a deal with AMD - the company provided a serial processor for replacement, and the reviewers promised not to publish the results of testing ahead of schedule.

We should understand that the tested system of the Dell Alienware gaming system was the same engineering sample AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X processor, which demonstrated A lower speed and a blue mounting frame .

In other words, the serial processor under the same conditions would perform better.  By the way, the partner of the engineering sample Ryzen Threadripper 1950X in the games was the video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti reference design.
