At the moment, the LTO-7 standard operates in the magnetic tape market.  LTO-7 cartridges can store up to 6 terabytes of uncompressed data and are characterized by a transfer rate of 300 MB / s.  Next year or even in a year, the LTO-8 cartridge standard will be introduced, which will double the capacity and data transfer rate.  But even today, developers of tape recording technologies have created a huge reserve for increasing the capacity of cartridges.  And this "stock" the other day was again replenished with a new development.

IBM and Sony jointly presented a number of technologies, thanks to which in the future it will be possible to produce a cartridge with a capacity of 330 TB.  The previous record was also installed in the laboratories, but then IBM worked with Fujifilm.  In 2015, the company's engineers created a film, magnetic recording heads and a signal system for recording on a tape with a density of 128 Gb / sq. In.  The technology promised to increase the capacity of cartridges to 220 TB.  The improved recording technology allows you to record on a square inch of tape already 201 Gb / in.

The improved tape Sony and IBM has received the lubricant developed by the scientists of the Blue Giant to cover the tape and to reduce the frictional force and wear of the working layer.  The grain for recording - a magnetic domain with a vertical magnetization - was able to be reduced to 7 nm.  This allow to reduce the working gap of magnetic heads based on the tunneling magnetoresistive effect from 90 nm to 48 nm.  The number of recording tracks increased from 181,300 to 246,200.

To record data at higher density and with increased speed, IBM developed an improved signal processing algorithm and finalized the mechanism for positioning the heads.  Samples of the new magnetic tape and drives for reading and writing data partners recently demonstrated in the work of the thematic conference Magnetic Recording Conference (TMRC 2017) in Japan.

Officially, AMD has so far submitted only three Ryzen Threadripper models, more adapted to overclocking and bearing the letter "X" at the end of the designation, but the manufacturer's documentation contains references to their "close relatives" without the letter "X" in the designation of the model.  A cursory acquaintance with the tables of compatible processors in the performance of Socket TR4 on the sites of several motherboard manufacturers allows to state that the market will be released 12-core AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920, which will have a lowered to 140 W TDP level.

The names of manufacturers of motherboards that have placed such information, we have not yet advertised for the purposes of excessive and meaningless conspiracy, but the rich history of persecution on their part does not leave us any other choice.
