POSTER: computer news   ||    TSMC BELIEVES IN A STEADY GROWTH OF THE MARKET OF COMPONENTS FOR SMARTPHONES

DATE:2016-10-16

Its confidence in the smartphone market's ability to provide the company with positive dynamics revenue company TSMC expresses a very peculiar way .  It believes that smartphones will become more complex, they require additional chips, processors and sensors, and ordered the release of all of these components, developers will be exactly TSMC.

On the other hand, the company's management believes that somewhere in 2019 smart phone market will cease to supply a major part of TSMC revenue, and in the first place will segment of high-performance computing: it is server-side components, and telecommunications equipment, and specialized computation accelerators.

In the next five years, however, TSMC's will continue to rely on the increased demand for components from the mobile device market.  This factor will determine about 50% growth.  More a quarter of the market have high-performance computing, and the remaining quarter will get the "internet of things".  Returning to the smartphone market, TSMC's believes that in the next five segment will grow by 5-6% annually.  New types of sensors, the introduction of virtual and augmented reality, the transition from 4G to 5G networks - all of this will entail even a moderate but steady growth in demand for new chips for smartphones.

Clients from among semiconductor products developer for smartphones TSMC will offer 7-nm process technology of the first generation in 2017.  In 2018 it will be upgraded, and in 2019 "will be ready," the 5-nm process technology.  That is, the lithography technology will evolve every year, and the development of the smartphone market with the closely related.  Where important low cost, will be used 28-nm and 16-nm process technology.

DATE:2016-10-16

Some manufacturers use marketing strategies, implying attractive prices for the main product, which forced to sell at a loss.  The losses are compensated on sales of related products.  In particular,  in the case of inkjet printers "saviors of the corporation" are the branded consumables, in the segment of video game consoles for a long time loss on sales of gaming devices offset by the games.

As recalled by Polygon resource, Sony was trying to sell PlayStation 4 at a profit, moving away from the old business model. Now, as explained by Sony representatives  , a virtual reality helmet PlayStation VR sold at a profit from the first day.  Recall that the basic package without cameras and manipulators is estimated at $ 399.  At the same time Sony believes that the platform offers a more affordable virtual reality than the main competitors.

In an interview with CNBC Sony representatives  expressed confidence that in the first days of sales PlayStation VR disperse hundreds of thousands of copies.  For high demand, Sony is preparing in advance to form a reserve of virtual reality helmets.  However, the company is not sure whether to allow it to avoid deficits.  Sony officials believe that PlayStation VR for $ 399 - it's very accessible.

DATE:2016-10-16

The first commercial Intel Optane drives Memory 3D XPoint will be on sale or as part of complete systems (notebook)  in the form of Optane Memory 8000p series.

In series Optane Memory 8000p will be released two models: one with capacity of 16 GB, the other - 32 GB.  Form Factor - M.22241 and M.22280.  Interface - two lines of PCI Express 3.0.  It is assumed that Optane Memory 8000p drives will feature the performance of Intel platform 7th generation.

The drive volume 32GB will show the established peak read and write speeds of 1.6 Gb / s and 500 MB / s.  The model is characterized by volume of 16 GB of the established reading speed of 1.4 GB / s and write speeds established 300 MB / s.  The values ??of the speed of IOPS with random 4 KB blocks will reach, respectively, 300 and 285 000/120 000 000/70 000 operations per second.  Intel Optane larger capacity models will be released later.

POSTER: computer news   ||   SCIENTISTS HAVE PROPOSED TO REDUCE TRANSISTOR GATE TO 1 NM

DATE:2016-10-16

A group of researchers from the Laboratory in Berkeley Lawrence proposed structure transistor, the gate of which the dimensions are reduced to 1 nm.  This is also one of the options to can continue Moore's Law, after the usual silicon stops moving the development of electronic components.  The shutter "1-nm transistor" is selected ordinary carbon nanotube.  Prior to that, for example, carbon nanotubes are proposed for use as a channel transistors because they have the best performance for the movement of electrons in a rapidly shrinking channels.  But the use of carbon nanotubes as transistor gates  no one seriously suggested, because in similar circumstances, they generate a very weak intensity of the electromagnetic field, which is not able to stop the current flow in the channel.

For carbon nanotubes in the following structure was created as a transistor gate. As the transistor channel between source and drain unused material such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). During the passage of current through the channel of MoS2 effective electron mass increases.

It should be emphasized that the tests with a "1-nm transistor" is in the early stages. The thickness of the ZrO2 film is reduced to 0.65 nm, which is also associated with technological challenges. In general, scientists have proved that the proposed concept is quite efficient.
