Title: New Storage Device Soon
Post by: liowkc on April 16, 2008, 06:44:42 pm
IBM had developed "racetrack" memory - using spinning electrons to store more data than hard drives. This will greatly increase the capacity of the portabke devices at lower prices.

The capacity will be more than traditional mobile hard disks.

well , nice find .
but i expect a full move to ssd disk before going further with new technologie . Many campaign already invested a large money  in such disk and they had to get somethings benefit before  ;).

I really hope this storage device can come into market soon to greatly enhance our capacity for our mobile devices. Storage and battery life seem to be the two perennial problems.

I also hope they come up with a good replacement for the hard disks soon. That will definitely make notebooks lighter. Latest size of hard disk I?ve seen is at 1TB, the replacement should be at least close to it.

CNet has reported that IBM has demonstrated technology that will increase hard drive capacity 100-fold.  Production is estimated in 7 to 10 years.

What a long time to wait!

My only question on this one is the intent. Is it intended then to replace hard drives, if so it would be great. I cannot wait until they can really make smaller mother boards so there is smaller overall system size.

It is a good news for those who travel long way and need to carry lots of data with them.
There are certain companies which are making external hard disk with higher memory.Let's see what IBM gives us.

i read about this great news, the devices would not only store vastly more information in the same space, but also require much less power and generate much less heat, and be practically unbreakable; the result: massive amounts of personal storage that could run on a single battery for weeks at a time and last for decades.....so cool

Hi.
This is really good development, Any idea when this will be available in market?
