Title: Power supplies on laptops
Post by: attagirl on April 28, 2008, 10:12:11 am
I have recently had to replace the power supply on my laptop. It was difficult to find what I needed as my laptop is 4 years old. I was not able to find anything locally because of the 8v on the supply not being compatible with the universals out there that are only 5v. Is there a place online that is quick about getting them shipped out when you find what you need.

Where are u located .
For 8 volt u may try to run your PSU rail 12+ and 5v + together (7v) . Instead of ground use the 5 v line .

I think you're best off contacting your laptop manufacturer. No hassles at all! :)

Definitely send it to the manufacturer!  Unfortunately laptops don't favor us "do it ourselves / overclocking" types!  I await the day when you can buy a laptop "case", and build the rest yourself!  I'm sure it's possible already, but not practical :)

Yes there are adaptors for your car cigarette lighter that transforms 12v DC to 110 AC. Or you could rent a generator for $30 a day at Home Depot. But that's some heavy lifting and a lot of noise.
