How do i know that the SPD has the right data that the module is and hasn't been edited by the retailer or anyone else since it's an EEPROM .

the best way is to check your memory data sheet available from manufacturer's site . then compare it with your current SPD data .

note some motherboard bios can wrongly detect the memory speed and latency .

if there is no label in the memory (no name memory ) .then u can always check the label on the memory chips .

It's highly unlikely that the retailer will be able to modify the EEPROM. Most memory modules are sealed in the box. Anyone who wants to remove to module will have to tear the label. Even if it's cut with a blade, it will be very difficult to re-seal without leaving evidence of tampering. So to prevent this sort of thing from happening, always buy modules sealed in the box only, and always check the seal for evidence of tampering before purchase.

yeah i agree with you, its almost impossible for the retailer to modify the EEPROM without leaving any clues. But still we need to take precautions and should get properly sealed modules.
