Hi all, Please shed me some light on HT3 Quad core Phenom. What I know is Phenom 9500, 9550, 9600, 9650, etc. Googling did not find many info. thanks for any help.

HT3 : hyper transport bus witch AMD use as high speed interconnection between the processor cores and chipset . This is like FSB for intel processor, but here intel FSB must go through the chipset while AMD HTT do not has such limitation . With intel cpu we deal with 800-1066-1333 or even 1600 MHz while HT3 go as high as 5000 MHz . Intel Plan to use similar bus system (called CSI) in order to improve the bandwidth and latency between processor core and the motherboard .

What do you want to know? They are AMD's quad cores. There are very few in the market right now and it's only the low end ones. There was a bug that under stress caused the CPU to freeze and your computer to crash. Most of the quads have been pulled off the market. There is a fix for it in the next revision, not sure when it is coming out. Intel's quad cores are quicker and faster then AMD's quad core.

The issue with Quad core AMD was fixed with B3 stepping (B2 has the TLB error issue , some cache problem witch is manifested (in rare case ) WHen all core are fully loaded .). ALL B3 stepping processor get a new model number . instead of Phenom 9400 (B2) the new Processor is called Phenom 94 50 (b3) So all processor with suffix 9X50 are error free .

Thanks for that info, I'm just wondering why can't AMD Quad cores outperform Intel Quad cores? Considering the fact that they can go as high as 5000 Mhz for interconnection with the chip sets.

From the architecture side AMD 64 are far more advanced that current core 2 Duo (intel processor) . AMD processor has the integrated memory controller and HT system bus . But when we talk about performance , core 2 duo is faster MHZ for MHz . AMD 64 are better for server application . Now (Soon in summer ) , intel released their weak side and they plan to release processor using similar system bus (like AMD HTT) and integrated memory controller .

Now I get it, so AMD is still the best choice for servers for now, but for the PC Intel would still be the best choice.

Well we can't say that AMD is the best server currently .But their processor are better suitable for server application . Intel Processor Still faster . IF combine HTT , integrated memory controller from AMD with current Core 2 Duo from intel we will get The fastest in the world processor . Anyway this what intel plan to add in their next generation processor (Nehalem) (Release date in summer .....) .

HT3 means Hypertransport technology. It has higher speeds than HT2.0. And the new phenom's which have numbers like 9550, etc. are the ones you're looking for, because they're the ones you don't get the TLB bug with.

amd's big boast of beating intel is over as they paid off the loyalty for SSE and SSE2 :-D and phenom uses .45 flops or something. forgot the exact stats. its in amd site in bios and OS and software developer specs folder in docs.
