hello ,
I am putting an old P4 together. CPU reads at 1.3 GHz instead of 2.66 GHz. I have done some searching and found about the multiplier being wrong, but I can figure out how to change it. I have a jumperless mobo and can't find the right setting in the BIOS.
BIOS has FSB at 400 and RAM at 266. Should be 533 and 333. Option for 333 doesn't show up, just 266 and auto. I ran speed test and processor is truely running at 1.3 GHz.

can you help me to fix it?
thanx..

I would say try by updating your BIOS to the newest version. That normally fixes any BIOS related problems.

However, if its still not fixed, I suggest you to replace your motherboard if in warranty. Because it has to be a motherboard issue.

Your processor might also be overheating resulting into thermal throttling.

This is most likely the intel technology speed step witch reduce the processor speed in idle time to reduce the electric bills  Grin .
Just check your processor under full load if it switches to 2660 then you are OK. Note this technology can be disabled from the bios.
Or may be a bios issue . Just update your bios and it will work fine .

Download CPU-Z from the Internet. Run it and show us the screenshot of the first page. Smiley As xtreview said it might be speedstep so we'll know it from the screenshot. Post it and then we'll tell the next step to verify things. Smiley

I hate the speed step technology!  I want my computer to be fast, even when I'm word processing.  I want my computer to be fast even when I'm not on it.  Who likes a lagging screensaver?  Tongue

just disconnect all those technologies and you be happy.Any way this will result in higher power requirement and will increase your power bills by 5 $ / month or so  Grin Grin
