hi all
If I need to run Windows XP 64bit or Vista 64bit, what CPU should I be looking for? I was looking at the Core 2 Dou but I'm not sure if it supports 64bit OS.
thanks for any help.

hi, all i know is that driver support for Vista x64 bounds better then XP x64 is. For the most part people won't see a big difference between the two. Not sure if programming is any different or better to do for 64 bit.

Rest assured. Core 2 duo DOES support 64-bit operating systems. But you only need a 64-bit OS when you've got 4GB or more RAM.

Be careful of 64bit OS you should have all your drivers compatible with it
if so Begin the transition if not you are stuck with the 32 one

64 Bit os are usefully for 4 Gb memory and now game show a nice boost from those 4 Gb .
here is a link witch show 4 Gb vs 2 Gb : http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-5140-view-2-Gb-vs-4-GB-gaming.html

i am just wondering, is there anything significant to keep in mind before upgrading to a 64-bit OS? I have a core 2 duo mb with close to top of the line hardware.Would I need to somehow verify hardware compatibility or even software compatibility before upgrading?

Just software compatibility . In any case 32 bit application will usually run fine under X64 using WoW 32 emulation .

The core2 duo will run a 32-bit OS just fine. You will only really need to upgrade to 64-bit if you are using more than 3 GB of ram.
