POSTER: computer news   ||    TODAY, INTEL CELEBRATES 48 YEARS

DATE:2016-07-18

The creators of many revolutionary technical solutions are still alive, and they founded the company continue to grow and generate billions in profits.

Exactly forty-eight years ago, the company, which is known today under the name Intel was founded in July 1968.   Gordon Moore  and Robert Noyce  originally named their offspring NM Electronics, but already in 1968 bought the rights to the name "Intel" company Intelco.

Initially specialized in the production of memory chips, Intel introduced its first processor in 1971 - it was a 4-bit Intel 4004, which contained 2,300 transistors and are available on 3-micron rules.  Processor frequency 108 kHz was measured.  A year later, there was an 8-bit Intel 8008, and to measure the frequency of its processor in megahertz company was able only to 1974, when there was the Intel 8080 with 4500 transistors.  This processor in 1975, formed the basis of the Altair 8800 - one of the first popular personal computers, which is sold as a kit for self-assembly for $ 439.

Ten years after the founding appeared Intel 16-bit processor 8086, in honor of all who are now called "the x86-compatible" products.  In 1981, Intel 8088 processor becomes the basis for the IBM PC personal computer - another "common noun" name in the industry.  In 1982, there is a 16-bit Intel 80286 processor, which has already 134 thousand transistors.  A year later, Intel first receives annual revenue in excess of one billion US dollars.  In 1985, there is a 32-bit Intel 80386 processor with 275 thousand transistors and a frequency of 16 to 32 MHz.  One of the company's founders, Robert Noyce, dies in 1990 of a heart attack.

A year later, the market go OverDrive processor series, allowing users to pick up speed on its own without having to replace the entire motherboard.  the first Pentium processor was released in 1993, which already contained 3.1 million. transistors and operates at a frequency of 60 to 66 MHz.  From 1989 to 1994, has evolved a family of processors Intel 486. Released in 1995 Pentium Pro processors can boast the presence of built-in cache memory of the second level, but differed high price.  Issued in 1997 Pentium II processors remembered unusual "slot" in the form of a cartridge execution, they are already contained 7.5 mln. Transistors.  In 1998, there were Celeron and Xeon processors, addressed the initial segment of the desktop PC market for workstations and servers, respectively.

In 1999, there are Pentium III processors and the server kind of Pentium III Xeon - the latest brand has not yet gained independence.  The new century the company has already met with a Pentium 4 processor, which contained 42 million. Transistors can operate at a frequency of one and a half gigahertz.

Intel development in this decade is not without a change in leadership and restructuring.
