A Year ago elcomSoft company for the first time stated about the possibility to restor forgotten passwords using the computational resources of  NVIDIA video cards ( sorting all possible combinations or just brute forcing ). It promised, that video card average price range will be able to test 20 times more password  than the central processor.

Now elcomSoft released a new version distributed password recovery , which allow to restor the forgotten passwords for different documents types : Passwords for microsoft office documents....

System with several  NVIDIA video card can sort out to 1 billion passwords per second. In comparison with the processor core 2 Duo a increase in speed by 50 times is promised ! As earlier, several computers can work  together to restor the password .

In the future this program will support passwords restor for wireless networks WPA/WPA2 with the aid of notebooks , work stations and servers resources,  using NVIDIA graphical solutions  .

To the formal announcement of 45 nm processors opteron remained a few days. AMD promises to not repeat past years errors  - systems on base of shanghai processors will appear in the present year. But this do not prevent AMD from improving its current Opteron processors released using the 65 nm technical process .

As is known, passage for new stepping and technical process improvement  can give not only increase in the frequency, but also ensure reduction in the energy consumption. AMD used this new stepping in order to release the processors opteron 2350 HE and Opteron 8350 HE, which at 2.0 GHz  frequency with the ACP value not more than 55 W.

According to some AMD data those new processor are based on  B3 stepping. In this case their default voltage is even higher than predecessors.

From one side, Asus with the reference to intel specification  recommends to not exceed 1.65V as memory voltage, since this can lead to the damage of central processor. From other side,  some enthusiasts were able to exceed the recommended voltage level  without any consequences, observed over the short and long term.

As explained associate, all depends on the bios settings . In the general case intel actually does not recommend to increase the memory voltage beyond the limits of 1.5-1.65 v, since this can reduce the processor service period . If user set the memory voltage to 2.0 v without any bios settings fine adjustment , the processor can malfunction almost immediately.

Memory producers already prepare DDR- 3 complete sets , capable of working in the regimes up to DDR 3-1600 with the relatively low voltages and aggressive timing.

It is completely possible that after some setting selection (Bios) DDR3 memory modules can be safely exploited with approximately 1.7-1.8 v. According to some calculation, the integrated three-channel memory controller for bloomfield processors ensures such capacity which is sufficient to the majority of users even in the regimes DDR 3-1333 or DDR 3-1600. However, extreme overclocer will use advanced motherboard  which allow to overcclock memory to more than DDR 3-2000 without the fatal consequences for the processor.
