Yesterday it became known that there are four crystals under the Ryzen Threadripper CPU placed on the soldering cap of the heat distributor, but only two of them contain eight working cores. At least two "extra" crystals are disabled, as the author of the bold experiment determined.
The site PCWorld made a rather unexpected comment on this topic.Citing its own sources, the resource is explained that this arrangement need processors Ryzen Threadripper for a more uniform distribution of the mechanical load on the heat spreader lid that using only two crystals would begin to buckle.
