Developers of mobile processors actively choose contractors for the release of new generation products  .  It is known that MediaTek is going to cooperate with TSMC within the 7-nm process technology , but the announcement by the DigiTimes resource from the submission of some Taiwanese media to the deviation towards GlobalFoundries for many has become a surprise.  It is alleged that from 2018 MediaTek will transfer part of the orders for the release of 16-nm processors to the capacity of GlobalFoundries - the one that produces the bulk of AMD processors. Now the release of 16-nm processors MediaTek Helio P25 and Helio P20 is engaged in TSMC, but since 2018 it will have to give half of GlobalFoundries' orders.  The latter is ready to offer lower prices for its services, so MediaTek, who needs to optimize costs, decided to take such a step.  In addition, MediaTek seeks to regain lost positions in the market, and cheaper products can contribute to this. Game console Sony PlayStation 4 Pro is equipped with a 16-nm processor, which is manufactured by TSMC , while the basis of Microsoft Xbox One X is a 14-nm solution developed by AMD, but produced by GlobalFoundries.  In other words, GlobalFoundries has not yet been involved in the release of 16-nm products for AMD customers.  The more interesting it will be to see how the cooperation with MediaTek will develop in this sphere.
