While ASUS and MSI released notebooks on the new Intel calpella platform, acer company plans to release two new notebook models on the platform AMD tigris. Acer aspire 7540 and 5542 are equipped with 17,3 and 15,6 inches  screens respectively. Both models are based on the processors turion II, they contain up to 4 GB memory and up to 640 GB disk space . Those notebooks can be equipped with the integrated or discrete (Mobility radeon HD 4570) graphic processor and optical drive DVD-RW or Blu-ray. Furthermore, it is possible to note the presence of gigabit ethernet adapters and Wi-Fi,  HDMI and touch pad, capable of recognizing several touches simultaneously. The declared battery life is 2,5 hours. The release of Acer aspire 7540 and 5542 models are planned to the end of October. Prices begin from $720 for the version with the integrated graphic processor and $800 for the version with discrete video card. Related Products :

I bought this laptop a couple of weeks back and its fantastic. I can\'t believe they actually understated the battery life. I did a test opening an internet explorer window of the beureau of meteorology (in australia) on the radar loop, which constantly refreshes (using the wireless) and runs a flash based loop of images. On this the battery lasted about 10 mins short of 4 hours (with medium brightness). Turn the wireless off and dim the screen and you may get 5 hours? I am yet to test this though, it may not get much better. Gaming is fantastic with the optional 4570 graphics (which in mine came with 512mb GDDR3 memory, as opposed to the DDR2 that was on the website - pleasant surprise) and I can run lord of the rings online on medium-high, battlefront on highest, aoe3 on highest. Again haven\'t had time to test more. During gaming runs moderately warm but the computer moves the heat away well with a fan which is just about silent in comparison to my old HP tx2500. Desktop, web browsing etc is smooth with my athlon II m300 and 4GB DDR2 800mhz ram. Screen viewing angles are good, and it is easily useable even at min brightness settings. Huge touchpad is very easy to use and multitouch works flawlessly. The worst thing about this laptop is the lack of a mute button with the multimedia volume buttons :). The facct that I\'m complaining about this just goes to show how happy I am with the rest of the laptop. Oh and also when i got it i imediately reformatted and reinstalled alll drivers from the accer site to get rid of all the bloatware.
