LG company is ready to offer Millenniata a new kind of optical media, providing almost perpetual data integrity.
Using a new material of natural origin, the young company is ready to produce optical discs such as M-Disc, with high strength fiber containing information. Data can be recorded to such media only once, while the supported write speeds is up to 4x, in the long term they may increase the speed to 8x. The capacity is 4.7 GB.
The first devices with support for recording on the M-Disc will appear in October this year from Hitachi-LG Data Storage company. In the future, should appear a Blu-ray version of M-Disc, allowing to store more information than they do now. The disk maintains a new type of sequential immersion in liquid nitrogen and boiling water without compromising data integrity. It is assumed that the demand for new drives will come from organizations conducting electronic archives. The cost of one M-Disc 4.7 GB capacity will reach $ 3, they will be sold in packs of 2-3 pieces. Related Products :
