Back in 2006 AMD acquired a package of Rambus licenses which provide the possibility of using XDR memory type . The actual application of this memory type is found in gaming consoles, Sony PlayStation3.  According to Rambus , XDR2 memory type can provide bandwidth up to 20 Gbit / s at a frequency of 625 MHz. When using 4-bit interface, the effective throughput is up to 80 Gbit / sec. XDR2 promises peak throughput of more two times higher than GDDR5 in terms of a single device, thus reduces power consumption by 30% without sacrificing performance. The most important XDR2 allows high memory bus with a lower bit depth than the GDDR5, which reduces the cost of graphics solutions. According to some information, XDR2 can be adopted in older video card series Radeon HD 7xxx, with GCN architecture . Related Products : | ||
