Today appeared a video that gives an idea about the capabilities of graphics system in tablet Amazon Kindle Fire HD. Show of OpenCL support is the result of Imagination Technologies specialists efforts , which developed the GPU PowerVR SGX540 and SGX544, which are integrated into single-chip system TI OMAP4 OMAP4 4460 and 4470, forming the basis of the young and old models Kindle Fire HD respectively. The demonstration uses an older model with a screen size 8.9 inches. Standard tablet does not use OpenCL acceleration. Meanwhile, the use of PowerVR graphics potential can increase performance while reducing power consumption.
Amazon has no plans in the near future to add support for OpenCL in Kindle Fire HD firmware, although the demonstration of the possibilities could be a signal that one day it will happen. Imagination Technologies experts explain low profile Amazon and other mobile manufacturers fear that a third party software with OpenCL will get too direct access to the hardware. This may result in a violation of the devices stability and even burn them in the event of errors. | ||
