We got some new data about the following high end video chip r680 from AMD witch will be released during January 2008. This chip will become the optimized r600 successor , after preserving 320 stream processors, and also after doubling the accuracy of floating-point calculations. . R680 will be released on the thinner technical process : R600 is released on 80 nm technology.
R680 chip will operate at frequency more than 800 MHz, and it will be completed wth 512 MB or 1 Gb GDDR- 3 memory , but nothing prevents producer from using GDDR-4 memory . The memory bandwidth is not defined. But it will be Hardly below 512 bits.
As change to RV630 and RV610 we have the video chips RV635 and RV620, and RV670 will fill the empty niche. R680 will ensure the support to directX 10.1 and PCI express 2.0.
The Radeon HD 2900 Pro will be based on chip r600 with 160 stream processors. Let us recall that FireGL v7600 with the 256- bit memory system bus is also based on r600 chip , which in this case has 320 stream processors. The chip frequency is equal to 600 MHz, the same will remain also for Radeon HD 2900 Pro. For $249 , this video card will ensure the speed level 8000-9000 points in 3DMark'06.
The Video card radeon HD 2900 Pro and Radeon HD 2900 GT will be released during September or October this year. According to some data, the video card radeon HD 2900 GT can be sold under the name radeon HD 2900 XL. This card will differ only in terms of the quantity of active stream processors from Radeon HD 2900 Pro .
