One of the previous notes in our news section was devoted to the initiative of the USB-IF organization to create a new type of connector. Occasion again to talk about the standard USB gave another industry organization, VESA, announced enhanced specifications DisplayPort, which was called DockPort.
According to the release, DockPort allow the use of DisplayPort connectors for data transfer via USB 3.0, and also declared support and one of the last extension, USB Power Delivery. In fact, the same terminal can connect a monitor, keyboard, mouse and other peripherals, along the way by getting rid of some chargers.
Incidentally, in 2012, appeared under the guise DockPort Lightning Bolt presentations AMD, however, this initiative aimed to compete with Intel Thunderbolt, and has not received due attention. Meanwhile, DockPort easier to implement in comparison with the same Thunderbolt: it does not require the use of active cables and offered at no cost to producers. The latter, however, gains in throughput, since it is based on the interface of PCI Express. According to an official statement, DockPort will appear in the second quarter of this year. And last summer controller supporting DockPort was released by Texas Instruments.
