  Today AMD company presented a new product : the quad-Core AMD opteron processor, previously known under the code name Barcelona. Among the special features of this processor the producer notes the most energetically effective x86- compatible architecture , in addition to : Technology AMD cool-Core technology, which decreases energy consumption by the disconnection of non used processor parts  ; Technology independent dynamic core technology, which is  the optimized version of AMD powerNow technology!, which allow each core to change its clock frequencies in the dependence of specific application requirements ; The technology dual dynamic power management (DDPM), which ensures the independent core and memory controller power , which allow for cores and controller to work with the different supply voltages. The improved support to virtualization is the second merit of those new processors. . the architecture direct connect allow to improve the virtualization support in  quad-Core AMD opteron processors , since the built-in memory controller helps to decrease delays with memory work  , and the function rapid virtualization indexing is the part of AMD virtualization technology , intended to decrease overhead expenses for virtualization. Earlier, the functionality, which realizes Rapid virtualization indexing, was performed by software. Their transfer in the hardware platform allow  to radically increase the operating speed. In the terms of performance, Quad-Core AMD opteron exceeds competitors, which relates to the same thermal pack : SPECfp_rate2006, SPEC-int_2006, SPECompM2001Base, STREAM, Fluent and LS-DYNA. Detailed information on this question exists on AMD site . Simultaneously with the processor release  , AMD declared about the introduction of new index, which reflects the processor energy consumption. Index was called Average CPU power (ACP) . ACP gives idea about the complete processor energy consumption  , including core, built-in memory controller  and hyperTransport line  , under load. The represented today processors quad-Core AMD opteron have values ACP, equal to 55 and 75 W. In all appeared nine processors quad-Core AMD opteron. Five of them can be used in the configurations with one or two processors (series 2000), three of them – model with the lowered energy consumption (HE). Four processors have the lowered energy consumption, and intended for configuration with processors number up to eight (series 8000). All models have identical cache volumes  : L1 – 64/64 Kb (commands/data), L2 – 512 KB , L3 – 2mb. Processors support those commands SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4. The built-in memory controller   has 128-  system bus data, support ECC and Advanced ECC, and it is designed for work with buffered memory DDR 2-667. The maximum quantity of DDR 2  modules is eight (in this case maximum frequency is limited to 533 MHz). Finally, here is the clock frequencies and prices of those processor : 2347 – 1,9 GHz, 316 dollars; 2350 – 2,0 GHz, 389 dollars; 8347 – 1,9 GHz, 786 dollars; 8350 – 2,0 GHz, 1019 dollars; 2344 HE of – 1,7 GHz, 209 dollars; 2346 HE of – 1,8 GHz, 255 dollars; 2347 HE of – 1,9 GHz, 377 dollars; 8346 HE of – 1,8 GHz, 698 dollars; 8347 HE of – 1,9 GHz, 873 dollars. All those processor are released in Dresden fab36 with 65- nm technical process ( SOI ).   Related Products :
