Rumors about IBM intentions to find a partner to share the production on the PowerPC processor immediately signaled a fairly narrow range of suspects - in addition to Globalfoundries, a partner could be three other major contract manufacturer of semiconductors: TSMC, Samsung and Intel.
TSMC company admitted that it has no intention of co-operation with IBM's in latest release of processors. TSMC has factories in the U.S., so IBM buy assets in this country simply do not consider it necessary. As for Globalfoundries, while no official comments were received, but at the moment this contract manufacturer prefers to build factories for their own needs, located in close proximity to major customers and markets.
