Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has received an order for the production of processors for the next generation tablet iPad, which will be released in early 2015.
Currently, TSMC is manufactures of Apple A8 processors for smartphones iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. They recently went on sale, and the total volume of deliveries by the end of 2014, is expected to reach 70-80 million units. TSMC will produce processors for the new iPad on 20-nanometer process technology, which is now available on the SoC A8 for the new iPhone.
TSMC also now produces a range of other chips for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, including 6-axis gyro InvenSense, a fingerprint sensor and AhthenTec modem 4G LTE Qualcomm.
It should be noted that the share of 20-nm products accounted for 10% of total revenue in the third quarter of TSMC in 2014, and in the final quarter, it is likely to increase to 20%. And considering getting a new order from Apple, their share in 2015 will increase to 30%.
